Power of Photogrhapy....La Forza della Fotografia
Spain, 1955 - Princess Yvonne and Prince Alexander Sayn-Wittgenstein-Stan aged 12 and 13.
So... here we have thirteen-year-old Princess Yvonne of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn in Germany is shown tipping back a bottle of Dry Sack sherry as her twelve-year-old brother Prince Alexander sits calmly by, his cigarette nearly finished. The photo was taken while the siblings were aboard a private yacht off the coast of Mallorca.
Before rushing to judgment on the lives of German nobility, it should be known that the photographer behind this image was the children’s mother, Princess Marianne Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn. Affectionately known as Princess “Manni” or her more artistic moniker “Mamarazza,” she was an accomplished photographer, her images becoming featured in magazines as well as gallery exhibitions.
Given this background, one can only hope that the shot above is the result of intentional composition and not reckless parenting.
Princess Manni was born in Salzburg in 1919, the daughter of Friedrich Baron Mayr-Melnhof and his wife Maria Anna Countess von Meran. The eldest of nine children, she received a camera from her parents in 1935 and began a lifelong love of photography.

La foto è stata scattata mentre i fratelli erano a bordo di uno yacht privato al largo di Maiorca.
Prima di precipitarsi a giudicare le vite della nobiltà tedesca, è opportuno sapere che il fotografo dietro questa immagine era la madre dei bambini, la principessa Marianne Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn. Conosciuta affettuosamente come la principessa "Manni" o il suo soprannome più artistico "Mamarazza", era una fotografa esperta, le sue immagini sono state pubblicate su riviste e mostre in galleria.
Dato questo sfondo, si può solo sperare che lo scatto sopra sia frutto di una composizione voluta e non di una genitorialità sconsiderata.
La principessa Manni nacque a Salisburgo nel 1919, figlia del barone Friedrich Mayr-Melnhof e di sua moglie Maria Anna, contessa di Merano. La maggiore di nove figli, ha ricevuto una macchina fotografica dai suoi genitori nel 1935 e ha iniziato ad amare la fotografia per tutta la vita.
