Burano
Burano is one of the bigger and the most densely populated islands in the venetian lagoon.
The men of Burano living from fishing and the women from the 16th century to the late 18th century from the top stitching. The lace school Scuola di Merletti revived the lace embroidery in Burano new.
The Scuola di Merletti still exists at Piazza Galuppi and provides there in the Museo del Merletto real Burano lace, which are an very expensive luxury item today.
Typical of Burano are the many small, in each of the neighboring houses contrasting, strong color painted fishermen's houses that are reflected in the channels and emphasize the individuality of each homeowner. The strange blaze of color attracts many painters and photographers on the island.
The leaning campanile of San Martino Church at Piazza Galuppi, here on the left in the photo, is already visible from a distance.
The church includes a Crucifixion by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
