Did you know that manna, often referred to as "manna from heaven," has a fascinating story rooted in nature rather than miracles?
Mentioned in the Bible, it is believed to be a divine gift, but in reality, it comes from the sap of ash trees. The Normans thought they had discovered paradise when they encountered it in Sicily, as they believed the Yggdrasil, or Tree of Life, produced this miraculous substance.
Today, there’s a man living in harmony with nature who harests this precious sap, which has a sticky, honey-like consistency and is edible, used not just as a natural sweetener but also for its purifying and healing properties.

The constant and frustrating feeling of missing out on something truly unique, of not discovering the backstage, the hidden places, the real connection with the locals. And the thought creeps in that you’re living on a stage set up just for tourists. The final product: predictable trips. But... what if it's not about the destination, but the way you travel?

You arrive before this great mass of rock, imposing and almost mysterious. Curious, you pause as the guide slowly reveals what it conceals. This is Cozzo Matrice, a sacred place steeped in ancient stories and rituals. As you climb, the panorama unfolds: sheep grazing, golden fields, and a bright blue sky embracing the horizon. Then, an opening in the rock is revealed – the mouth of Hades, the entrance through which the goddess Kore was abducted, according to myth.

At the summit, the guide brings out a citron, a symbol of an ancient ritual. He entrusts it to one of us, asking them to cut and share it. The citron passes hand to hand, and you savour a piece. The peel is thick and sweet, the citrus flavour filling the mouth. The guide tells you that food was shared in the past, even in the most secret rituals. It was a way to bond the group, to connect people to the land and the gods. And though many of those rites remain shrouded in mystery, that simple gesture, that unique taste, makes you feel part of something much greater, something ancient.

Hours spent walking from one site to the next, led by a guide who regurgitates information non-stop... and you think, "When are we going back to the hotel?" What was supposed to be a pleasant experience leaves you feeling stressed and disengaged. Why does it always end up this way? Maybe it’s because you’re stuck with guides who stick to didactic narratives and large groups that dilute the personal experience. So, you try a DIY trip, believing you can explore more freely, but end up passing by hidden wonders without even noticing, heading only to the places you've heard are worth seeing. Days become a frantic succession of stops, where the essence of the places is reduced to little more than a list of curiosities, turning the trip into more stress than pleasure.

Cesare Pavese once said “Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of the comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things – air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.”
Travel brings discomfort by stepping out of the comfort zone, which means opening up to new paths, perspectives, and experiences. This is why traveling is the best way to grow.
Encountering the unknown changes you deeply, pushing you to overcome your limits.

In many cases, the most unique and authentic experiences are neither known nor promoted, remaining unknown to most. This leads travellers to tread the same paths repeatedly, depriving them of the opportunity to discover behind-the-scenes secrets, hidden locations, and genuine contact with locals. The result? You find yourself in overcrowded and overly touristy places, where even the food loses its authenticity. We got you.

Not becoming, but unbecoming. It's about shedding everything that isn’t truly you, so you can be who you were meant to be. And it's also about emptying yourself to renew, learning, and filling yourself with something new. Like a tree pruned to grow new branches and leaves, reaching higher and higher towards the sky. Letting go to welcome.

Have you ever smelled a quince? We often just look at it, noticing how different it is from a regular apple. But if you take a moment to get closer and breathe in its scent, you'll discover a warm, citrusy aroma that feels like a memory of something distant and forgotten. It’s a reminder to go beyond the surface, rediscover the world with fresh senses, break free from perceptual habits, and try seeing things from a new perspective.

As Jon Krakauer wisely observed, 'The core of man's spirit comes from new experiences.'
This profound insight underscores the transformative power of venturing into the unknown. In a world often trapped in routine, it's through embracing the unfamiliar that you truly flourish. These experiences broaden your perspectives, sharpen your skills, and deepen your understanding of yourself.
Each adventure is a step closer to unlocking our full potential, breaking free from the ordinary, and enriching our lives with moments of profound meaning.

While exploring the streets of Palermo, Qing stumbled upon a traditional Sicilian puppet workshop, where she discovered the ancient art of puppet making, the wisdom and a devoted lifestyle never seen before.
