Well-said Freya. Undoubtedly the city needs to work harder to clear the streets (let's help the immigrants of course, but there are better ways) of the illegal vendors and it is useful to remove that when the police approach, they have lookouts, signals and young fast legs. Tourists mostly have none of these and are caught and are fined.

Bear this in mind when you visit Florence.
Illegal street sellers (with no documents, no address, no anything) should be fined by law as can anyone who buys from them! Chances are you do have documents, ID cards, passports etc!
Not delving into the ethical question here, just to make you aware that YOU are responsible if you buy those goods.
We suggest - don't.

Tomorrow the Tour de France (apparently not in France) comes through our town! Pontassieve and San Francesco will be closed effectively from 9 til 2pm tomorrow.
Sul palco di Piazzale Michelangelo a Firenze, sono state presentate le squadre del Tour de France 2024 💛
Domani al via la prima tappa che attraverserà anche alcuni paesi del Mugello e della Valdisieve.
Il passaggio dei corridori lungo il percorso sarà preceduto di un’ora dal passaggio della carovana pubblicitaria
È disposta la chiusura temporanea della circolazione di veicoli, persone e animali (con divieto di sosta con rimozione su entrambi i lati della carreggiata) lungo tutto il percorso extraurbano interessato dalla competizione ciclistica.
Sono stati concordati i seguenti ORARI DI CHIUSURA DELLE STRADE INTERESSATE:
Comune di Firenze: 9-14
Bagno a Ripoli, Pontassieve, Pelago: 9.30-14:00
Dicomano, Rufina, San Godenzo: 10/14

Heads up! The Tour de France will be coming through Pontassieve tomorrow, the 29th of June, and there will be loads of traffic that accompany it. They will be biking down Via Aretina, Via Luigi Gori, and then heading out of town on Via Forlivese.
