This is a post I never wanted to write but unfortunately the situation has become unsustainable. It is VERY dangerous to park your car with luggage and valuables on the streets in the neighbourhoods around the Leaning Tower.
My advice is to use the many guarded car parks that exist in the area that can be easily found with Google Maps

Out of the classic Pisa sightseeing tour that features Miracles Square with its Leaning Tower, the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, located on the Lungarno in Piazza San Matteo, should be an absolute must-see for anyone visiting the Tuscan city. In addition to being a point of reference for medieval and Renaissance painting and sculpture, including Pisan and Tuscan artists from the 13th to the 15th century, the museum holds the world's most important collection of monumental painted crosses, evidence of one of the high points of the Pisan School in the period between the 11th and 13th centuries and medieval art. Thanks to the commercial, economic, political and cultural power of the Republic of Pisa, a Pisan School developed here from the year 1000, with a culmination in the 13th century, characterised by a high quality of works and a liveliness that was unparalleled in the Italian peninsula in the same period.

In Pisa there's the oldest university botanic garden in the world, funded in 1543.
You can find it in the quarter of Santa Maria, a few steps from the Leaning Tower. Entrance fee is 4,00 Euro for adults.

On Saturday 10 August at 8.45 p.m., in the splendid setting of the Museo Nazionale della Certosa Monumentale di Calci, the classical accordion concert 'Vivi felice' will be held.
French accordionist Vincent Lhermet, international concert performer, winner of major international prizes and professor at the Conservatoire de Paris Cnsmdp will propose a contemporary reinterpretation of eight centuries of Italian migrations through the breath of his accordion.
The audience will be magically led from the notes of the Italian Renaissance to the Italophile works of the Hungarian Ligeti, from arrangements of concertos by Vivaldi and Bach to a 14th century lament, passing through the famous Follia, which found fertile ground throughout Europe from the 15th century onwards, to the work of Matteo Franceschini, a witness to extraordinary Italian inventiveness in contemporary times.
At 7.30 p.m., on the occasion of the extraordinary evening opening, it will be possible to visit the Museo Nazionale della Certosa Monumentale with a guided tour by the museum staff at the regular cost of the entrance ticket.
Places are limited and booking is strongly recommended by calling 050/938430 for both concert (free of charge) and guided visit (at the cost of the regular entrance fee).

In celebration of the birthday of the Leaning Tower, whose construction was begun on 9 August 1173, and at the end of the celebrations of its first 850 years, this is the programme of events that will take place in the Piazza del Duomo in Pisa on Friday 9 August 2024:

- The Baptistery and the Monumental Cemetery will be free of charge in the evening with compulsory booking at www.impegnoefuturo.it
- The Cathedral will be open to the public in the evening with no ticket and no reservation required
- The Leaning Tower will close at 17:00, last entrance at 16:30
- At 21:30 in the square there will be a recital with free admission by tenor Francesco Meli, accompanied on piano by Davide Cavalli

This is a unique exhibition in the world, with the largest existing collection - some 3,500 examples - of a tool that has been irreplaceable in building everything around us. For more than three thousand years, all civilisations have used it, declining it according to their culture without being able to do without it, from the pyramids to the Colosseum, from the Chinese wall to cathedrals, from aqueducts to towers...
The exhibition traces the history of construction and topography through the centuries, with evidence from Ancient Egypt, Roman, Ottoman, Ming, Seljuk and Afghan times. The plumb line has been used in numerous trades, each of which has declined it in its own way: mason's plumb lines, carpenter's plumb lines, surveyor's plumb lines, tower plumb lines, mine plumb lines, mechanic's plumb lines, artist's plumb lines, inauguration plumb lines, patented plumb lines, mechanised plumb lines, up to the exquisitely shaped English and American 19th century examples. An extensive bibliography of books, publications and antique catalogues can be consulted as an appendix to the exhibition.
