In my second book, Amalfi Coast Recipes, I offer a stunning collection of authentic local recipes from my beloved Amalfi Coast, generously shared by a wonderful variety of regional cooks and chefs, many of whom have become close friends of mine over the two decades

I lived there. My deep knowledge and love of the region and its personalities has enabled me to
hand-pick the best recipes, having been made welcome at the tables and in the kitchens of passionate local cooks. Pasta with Zucchini, succulent baked goat, infallible baked fish under salt, flying squid stew, chocolate eggplant and traditional ancient dumplings with anchovy sauce. The star is fresh produce from the sea, complemented by sun-kissed local ingredients: cherry tomatoes, artichokes, garlic, seasonal herbs and the famous Amalfi lemon. In Amalfi Coast Recipes I share the Amalfi recipes, exquisitely photographed on
location by Simon Griffiths, that have been passed down through the generations. Yes, and I am the daughter of Australian fashion icon Maggie Tabberer, and forged my own career as a fashion stylist, working in Milan for Conde Nast and in Florence for Italian fashion guru Enrico Coveri before moving to Positano. Soon I established my own line of Italian designer wear, which I exported and sold locally for more than 15 years and set up an exclusive villa rental business on the Amalfi Coast which continues to flourish today. This could be one of the best day trips on the Amalfi Coast. You can leave home (Positano) at 9 am. By 9.30 am you will be in the main piazza of Amalfi in front of the best cathedral for miles around, S. Andrea……..its gold ornate crypt will blow your mind! And don’t forget your good strong coffee and “lingua di Gatto” biscuit (cat’s tongue) at Panza Cafe just below the cathedral ……this too, will also blow your mind!

Onto the tiny town of Scala just above Ravello to savour the amazing view of the coast AND an unseen panorama of Ravello.

By 12.30 pm you will arrive at the most sunning Organic Buffalo Farm called Vannulo, just outside of Paestum. Here you can savour their incredible buffalo products from Buffalo Gelato to Buffalo butter to Buffalo cheese! All delicious.

After you can opt for a visit to the timeless Greek ruins of Paestum or a slow cruise home via the tiny fishing village of Cetara for a once-in-a-lifetime seafood meal at . OR if you have your skates, you could do BOTH!

The perfect facade of the beautiful mother church of Amalfi, Saint’Andrea…… Amalfi is an ancient maritime republic…..one of the theories of how Amalfi got her name: There was a nymph called Amalfi who was adored by Hercules! Although I avoid stairs these days, I never feel too guilty as I think Ive done my fare share of them after living for 20 odd years in Positano! And although I loved every step up or down I took….. I know this is not for everyone.

This is not a colourful rainy day in Positano but a beautiful funeral procession in the rain, so appropriate. No one treats the deceased as kindly as the Positanesi ( Positano natives). They will show up in droves no matter the weather conditions no matter the distance required to walk, and often not knowing the deceased too well either! …..not to mention the long hike up to the sensational cemetery at the very top of the hill above Positano.
It is truly a celebration of one's life and so warmly done. The 2nd of November is the Festa dei Morti ( Festival of the dead) all over Italy, also known as Tutti Morti (All the Dead).

Families flock to the cemeteries nationwide to celebrate and remember their dearly departed loved ones. Often with sandwiches and all! Nowhere in this country is this celebration more beautiful than in Positano, simply because they possess the most breathtaking views from their cemetery. Having said that the general cemetery real estate all over Italy embraces the prime hilltop locations. The departed are well cared for.

This day follows Tutti Santi (All Saint’s Day) on November 1st. This is a busy week in the year.

The shots of the crushed flowers embedded into the asphalt are thrown by the mourners who precede the Hearst tossing them into its pathway. The Hurst then rolls slowly over them, and there they remain for many days as a remembrance. Another beautiful gesture. This lovely scene Carla my photographer and I encounter while shooting my first book up in the mountainous village of Tramonti. I’ve never seen this down on the coastline. Go to these other parts of the Amalfi Coast to discover beautiful traditions. I assist all my accommodation clients to access these areas.

AMALFI COAST CULINARY MUSTS……. ALWAYSES!.(I know this is not a word, but I’m sure you know what I mean) My fabulous Amalfi Coasts taught me so much. Here are just a few tips! ALWAYS make sure your oil is nice and hot but not smoking or burning when you are about to fry. Peanut oil is a favourite in Southern Italy for its high heat capacity. This way less oil will penetrate the food and you will have a crisper lighter result. No soggy heavy stuff! ALWAYS mix your salads with 10 clean fingers! This is infinitely better than a spoon or a folk…..except cake mix. ALWAYS cook your risotto on a lively flame! That way the rice will absorb each spoonful of broth rapidly and not give you a soggy final product. ALWAYS use plenty of salted water when cooking your pasta, and don’t overcrowd your pot with pasta. It should be boiling furiously when you drop the pasta in. Today I almost feel like I know too much about this stunning coastline! What a fabulous ride it has been! I remember some of today’s owners when they were toddlers. But time is not the only change. GONE are the days when you could book a villa one month before arrival. Here are my top booking tips for 2023 onwards. Book as early as possible. Even one year prior to arrival is normal today. Be specific with dates, please. Unfortunately there are many non-refundable deposits that are required for hotels, apartments and even some hotels, but many have flexible conditions. You may not get your money back, but many establishments will give you dates further down the track if you need to cancel. Be prepared that prices have increased considerably since Covid, the Ukraine War, worldwide inflation and the ever-present Italian petrol and electricity prices have added to this headache. How many guests are in your travel part? And what are the sleeping arrangements? How many singles and doubles beds are required? Are any single guests happy to share a room? The earlier you can give me this information, the quicker I can find the right property for you. MOST villas in High Season (beginning May to end Sept) require 7-day bookings from Saturday to Saturday. I LOVE a bathroom with a window…….and better still, a window with a view! No matter the size, it could be a port hole or an entire wall! Just something that opens! This is a rarity in big cities, but vertical towns on the Amalfi Coast are famous for this luxury……, especially Positano. I am yet to meet a TORRE guest who has not totally & passionately fallen in love with this magnificently situated 13th-century tower in the heart of Positano. It is discreetly tucked away below the roadside, the quietest side of the road and is perched above the main beach of Positano. What luxurious & romantic accommodation for a couple! I love this building in Positano. Firstly, because it is a Palazzo (I also loved that a simple building in Italy is called a ‘Palazzo’!) and secondly because it is named after my Mum, Palazzo Margherita (Margaret is Margherita in Italian). My beloved Italian stepfather Pros, always called my Mum, Margherita. This palazzo has some of the BEST apartments in Positano. Grab one now before they are all rented for 2023! I am bigger than a rock star on the Amalfi Coast - there are more images of me in each village along this 40 km stretch of coastline than the mythical football player Maradona, although our names are similar - I have more friends; female and male, than the biggest influencers on social media - I attract all age groups from all different nationalities - I am eternally beautiful. Bougainvillea is without a doubt one of the iconic visuals on the Amalfi Coast. Especially in May, it is literally EVERYWHERE! From rooftops to rubbish tips, from five-star hotels to back alleyways, it is simply inescapable, Palazzo Murat in Positano, strategically placed on the narrow walkway down to the main beach (ALSO covered in bougainvillea) is renowned for its lush gardens and is also the Kingdom of bougainvillea. I always stole a small bunch for my hat on a daily basis when leaving my house……and those small thefts were never noticed because it grows like wildfire!
