The FATHER OF ETNA 🌋

In this very didactic photo it is reconstructed, in a schematic way, as Etna was until about 15 thousand years ago, about 3600 meters high.😯

At that time the enormous central crater of the Elliptical volcano, the parent volcano of Etna, collapsed on itself, reducing its height by about 700 metres, which is indicated with a red dotted line.

Little by little it was reborn inside the frightening sinkhole (caldera), exceeding its old borders (around 2900 m altitude) generating Mongibello (another name for Etna), which today stands at 3357 metres. 😍
