The Adriatic coast of Salento offers beautiful beaches that are not populated by crowds. Indeed, the coast is mostly wild with no-services, a situation that makes these sea-sides not interesting for people who look for commodities. You need to bring your own stuff. These pictures were taken on a popular Saturday morning of July, when people is off from work. During the week there are much fewer people on the beach.

The river Tiber upstream Rome is a beautiful reservation. Here in the vicinity of Fiano Romano, only a few miles from the city. The river offers beautiful landscape and nature, from its source on mount Fumaiolo, passing through Umbria and then Lazio. Annually a kayak event is organized for people to enjoy navigating the river following the river flow and camping along the way.

The charming town of Castel Madama on a hill over the Aniene valley, about ten miles before the river gets to Tivoli. Here the waters of the Aniene are crystal clear. I tried to find a path to get to the riverside for a splash in it's waters which looked so inviting. I only saw a passage too steep and thick to walk with the bicycle. On the opposite side of the valley, found a water spring and drunk from it, clear, fresh, sweet water. The creek is on of many running down the mountains to feed the Aniene, which in turn feeds the Tiber.

An ancient Roman paved road, the remains of an aqueduct, an abandoned farm with private chapel. This is what I have encountered approaching the village of San Gregorio da Sassola. Finally the Castle and the Medieval town appear like in a fairy tale.

Along the valley of the river Calore, lies this small town of Cilento, Felitto (Salerno, Campania), rich in traditions and naturalistic beauties, such as the Gole del Calore.

The town of Monterano, with the church and convent of San Bonaventura, was abandoned at the end of the eighteenth century due to an epidemic of malaria and following the looting by French troops. The inhabitants moved a few kilometers away, founding the new nucleus of Canale Monterano. The façade of the church of San Bonaventura, of the convent, and the octagonal fountain had been built in the seventeenth century on a design by Bernini. Today the original fountain is today located in Piazza del Municipio in Canale Monterano. A fig tree has grown inside the church of San Bonaventura, today a century old. The place is so impressive that it has often been used as a film set. Recognizable in the film Il Marchese del Grillo in the scene with Flavio Bucci. The ruins of Palazzo Altieri still dominate the old town, the ancient houses with stables, the church of San Rocco, a bell tower and the aqueduct. The place is fascinating and evocative, a frequent destination for outings and picnics, walking, horseback riding and cycling. Especially on weekends.
