Today, on Giornata dei Migranti (International Migrants Day), we honor the powerful stories of migration, often a forced and challenging journey, that connect the past and present.

Italy’s history is deeply tied to the journeys of millions who left in search of a better future, shaping communities across the globe.

We’ve recently begun a journey to better understand roots tourism, a form of travel inspired by the growing desire to reconnect with one’s heritage. It’s a meaningful experience for emigrants and second or third-generation descendants who return, or visit for the first time, a place deeply connected to their identity.

Migration is more than a journey; it’s a story of identity, heritage, and belonging. Today, we reflect on the shared experiences that unite us across borders and generations, celebrating the resilience of those who leave their homes to build a new life while keeping their roots alive❤

📍"Domenica al Museo," or "Sunday at the Museum," is an Italian 🇮🇹 initiative launched in 2014 and promoted by the Ministry of Culture, offering free access to state museums, archaeological sites, and parks every first Sunday of the month.

Why? The main purpose is to spark interest in the arts and Italian cultural heritage, inviting everyone to explore the collections and marvels within each cultural site.

Useful info and tips:
- Free access is granted to ALL visitors regardless of residence
- The list of cultural sites involved is updated in real-time on the dedicated page
- Expect some crowds, especially at popular sites, as many visitors take advantage of this opportunity. Arriving at opening time or during lunch hours may offer a more serene experience

✨The "Mercati di Traiano" in Rome, is an extensive complex of brick buildings dating back to Emperor Trajan's era, situated near the Trajan Forum. This multi-level structure housed shops, offices, and apartments, all arranged along a grand semicircular facade, serving both commercial and administrative purposes.

The Markets of Trajan today house the Museum of the Imperial Fora, part of Rome's civic museum network. The museum displays the ancient architecture and decorations of the Imperial Fora, featuring reconstructions using original fragments, casts, and modular stone. These are designed to restore their original three-dimensional form and showcase the splendor of imperial propaganda.

🔸The museum offers free admission every first Sunday of each month as part of the "Domenica al museo" initiative.

🇬🇧 Come back tomorrow, March 3rd, " Sunday at the museum"✨, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Culture that allows free access to state museums and archaeological parks throughout Italy.

This month, we suggest visiting the Museum of Rome in Trastevere, located in the heart of the district which hosts three interesting photography exhibitions:

🔸 HILDE IN ITALY: A photographic journey of Italy in the Thirties and Forties that offers unique images of the life of ordinary people, places, and Italian artistic treasures of that time (until May 5)

🔸 LOU DEMATTEIS/A JOURNEY BACK: Over 100 photographic shots portraying familiar faces, scenes of popular struggle, and historical moments of Italy in the 1970s. A journey by American photojournalist De Matteis to discover his Italian roots (until March 24)

🔸 RINO GAETANO: Documents, photos, records, musical instruments, and stage costumes that document the entire artistic journey of Rino Gaetano, a versatile artist and author of innovative and socially committed musical pieces who prematurely passed away at the age of 30(until April 28)

🇬🇧 Did you know that it's possible to go horseback riding 🐎🐎 along the beautiful Appian Way in Rome? This important historic road, known in Italian as Via Appia Antica, offers a picturesque route for horseback riding enthusiasts.

🌳🌿The ancient Appian Way was built by the censor Appius Claudius Caecus in 312 B.C. who conceived it as a kind of ancient highway, consisting of long straight stretches to shorten travel times, as an alternative to the more inland Via Latina. Starting from Porta Capena in the area of Circo Massimo in Rome to Capua and Brindisi port later, it became the most important road for trade and travel throughout the Mediterranean.

The Appian Way was 530 km long, which a horseback traveler could typically cover in a couple of weeks or more. Incredible, isn't it?
