POMPEII TODAY in the NEWS:

Archaeologists have discovered a remarkably well-preserved skeleton in the ancient city of Pompeii.

The remains they found are from Marcus Venereus Secundus. His name is known as he was a slave and one of the servants of the Temple of Venus. Later he was freed and reached a good social position.
Now, thanks to the discovery of his tumb with inscription, we know that he organized "ludi graeci" which means 'theatre shows' in the Greek language!

The skull of Marcus Venereus Secundus bears tufts of white hair and part of an ear, as well as bones and fabric fragments. It has been described as "one of the best-preserved skeletons ever found in the ancient city".

This incredible discovery was made in the necropolis of Porta di Sarno, an area not yet open to the public that is located in the east of Pompeii’s urban centre.

Archaeologists say the discovery of a well-preserved skeleton in a Pompeii tomb is the first confirmation that Greek was used in Ancient Rome alongside Latin.
