In 1857, a 12-meter-high column was erected in piazza Mignanelli, right next to the Spanish Steps. It was intended to commemorate the Catholic dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, promulgated by Pope Pius IX just 3 years earlier.

On December the 8th a fireman climbs a ladder to place a ๐ฅ๐š๐ซ๐ ๐ž ๐ ๐š๐ซ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฐ๐ก๐ข๐ญ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐š๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐š๐ซ๐ฆ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐›๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ณ๐ž ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐Œ๐š๐๐จ๐ง๐ง๐š atop the column. This religious ritual is presided over by the Pope and the garland stays there until next year.

Do you know where Raphael saw his beloved Fornarina for the first time? โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ In the 16th century there was a bakery on via di Santa Dorotea, in the district of Trastevere, in the building now occupied by the โ€œPolpettaโ€ eatery. ๐Ÿง† At the time when Raphael was working on the frescoes in the nearby villa owned by the rich banker Agostino Chigi, he walked down this street and instantly fell in love with the baker's daughter, who was nicknamed La Fornarina (the little baker girl).
