JUST LIKE … NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 🎥

Sometimes I feel like being in the movie Night at the Museum … it seems like the statues of the Vatican Museums are looking at us, talking to us … spying on us !
Do they look real ? More human than humans . Now you know why you never feel alone in there…. 😎

Rome’s surroundings … Poetry & Food

These days I am proudly taking part to a project which aims to promote the highlights as well as the less known villages and gems of the Tivoli greater area.
The project is called: “In Viaggio con Eva" (Traveling with Eve) and consists of taking groups of tour operators, bloggers, journalists and writers around this wonderful area and getting them to discover the unexpected beauties we love.
Today we visited Cervara (the town of the artists) and Riofreddo, where we learned how to make homemade pasta….

Have you Ever seen it?
ONLY IN ROME ❤️
It’s still very well preserved ancient Roman aqueducts right in the middle of a fantastic park where people go for running, biking or for a pic-nic with family & friends.
This is has been our great location for a Feldenkrais lesson and a guided tour at Sunset.

HAPPY WORLD PASTA DAY FROM ITALY!

Today we thankfully celebrate the 25th WPD and believe to be luckily in the very heart of it.
Italy and pasta are one thing......like pizza, and just like pizza the thing has spread all over the planet. Among thousands of recipes and types of pasta ranging from fettuccine to lasagne, from spaghetti to ravioli, cannoli, pappardelle, linguine, penne, spaghetti, maccheroni.....and so on for.......ever!
Tonight we celebrate with our friend and outstanding chef Anna and her original simple and super tasty spaghetti recipe: Spaghetti alle Acciughe Sott'Olio (Anchovies in Oil Spaghetti).

THE PANTHEON AND THE STARS
I took this pic just a few days ago at the Pantheon in Rome. That crazy light on the main arch entrance comes from the oculus (the big eye on top of the dome) and you can see it just a few times a year. This is because the most PERFECT building of all Roman architecture was designed according to a very sophisticated astronomical plan. That’s why it gets you to feel so close to the sky ....

Do you want to know why so many people around the world are in love with Italian cuisine?
1) it is because it just tastes great
2) it is because it's so healthy and nutritious
Here's what I get for my health from my anchovies-zucchini flowers-mozzarella super pizza:
The flowers provide me with a large amount of calcium, which is great for my bones
The anchovies provide me with a lot of selenium, actually 50% of the RDA, on top of that I also get iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium.....what else?
Then let's enjoy a good pizza for the best of our body....and soul! Yum yum!
PS don't forget that a proper amount of carbs is needed everyday, along with protein and vegetables.

Summer 2020 : A new kind of visiting

Yesterday we guides were invited at Villa d’Este (my favorite spot outside of Rome), in order to test the new measures to follow while guiding people in the site.
It will l be groups up to 10 people, social distancing and wearing masks.
I cannot immagine what it will be like with 100 Fahrenheit!
Nonetheless, despite these “weird “ times, it was amazing seeing my colleagues again after such a long standstill, along with the wonderful fountains and flowers of one of the most famous Renaissance villas worldwide.
Maybe it won’t be easy but at least we will be able to enjoy Art again!

My beloved cats please watch, the tigers are coming back !
Italy - Rome - phase 2
The Colosseums and Rome’ highlights are going to reopen
On May 18
The museums and archaeological sites of the Eternal city will reopen to the public, with preventive measures in place to reduce potential exposure to the virus.

The Italian archaeologist Alfonsina Russo , the director of the Parco Archeological park of the Colosseum says: “ We also took the opportunity to carry out some maintenance works that we have always been putting off so as not to interfere with the public: at the Colosseum we have repaired the floor, painted railings and parapets, removed weeds from the walls; at the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill we have resurfaced some paths and increased pruning and grass cutting”.
We’re so glad that little by little life is coming back to “Life”.

WELCOME TO 2773 ab urbe condita

April 21 is the birthday of Rome, the Eternal City. In fact back in year 753BC, exactly on April 21st, Romulus founded the city on top of the Palatine Hill and became its first king. On April 21st we are entering year 2773 AUC this year numbering system was widely used in the Middle Ages, although it was not common in ancient Roman times.
Every year the celebration includes historic pageants, parades and reconstructions of famous battles and gods celebrations. The story is far from being over as Rome is still here, witnessing the flowing centuries and ages. Rome survived the barbarian invasions, the dark ages, the wars, the plagues and thrived again each single time. Even if this one time we will not be able to properly feast together, this pandemic is not going to even scratch the course of our beloved City.

Happy birthday Rome!

PS pics are from the Gladiators School of Rome - Gruppo Storico Romano, they always organize the celebrations for this event.

1920: when even cats wore masks

Exactly one century ago, back in 1920 mankind was dealing with an even deadlier pandemic: the Spanish Flu. The breakout started in 1918 and lasted for more than 2 years infecting 500+million people. Don't these masks look familiar? Take a look at the cat on pic 1, ain't it funny?

Italian traditional Easter breakfast

Happy Easter! This holiday with both pagan and religious origin, is celebrated the first Sunday after the first full moon following the equinox of spring. It is when the sun starts rising closer to the east and days get longer, hence the name Easter.
Here in Italy we have a rich nutritious breakfast with eggs (symbolizing fertility), Easter pizza (a leavened cake mixed with eggs, Pecorino cheese, Parmigiano and black pepper), salami, chocolate and.....wine! That's a real breakfast of champions. And this is how we started our day, We wish you all a happy Easter and a great spring, yes we are all gonna beat the virus!

We are getting accustomed to seeing a different world, sometimes some of the side effects of the lockdown are the only upside of such a dreadful situation. We all remember what recently happened to the bus driver from Detroit, the hard truth is that some categories of workers such as doctors, paramedics, pharmacysts, grocers, truckers, police, firefighters, bus drivers and many others must put themselves at stake and do their duty in order to keep the world going around.
Do please take a look at the pics a Roman bus driver shot during his shift. He also wrote some quotes in Italian we did not include. He portraited an unprecedented picture of the Eternal City nobody ever had a chance to see before during the 28 centuries since its foundation.

Rebooting our society...

This coronavirus thing has put all of us in a totally unexpected situation. Is life ever going to be as we used to know it? I mean we are all going to recover....when I say all I mean almost each one of us albeit unfortunately a very little share of the world's population will not make it due to possible severe covid19 related complications. Anyway this is not the point. The topic that is baffling me is how will it be after we took conscience and awareness on how weak and unreliable our existence is. Luckily we relatively thrived for a fairly long number of decades. Even the 2008 recession looks irrelevant in comparison to what we are about to face. We all acknowledge that going back to our jobs and activities as if nothing happened is not possible. I believe we are losing our lives' staples and our self confidence. We were getting there slowly but steadily. In the latest years post apocalypse movies and tv series revealed we were aware to be getting closer to the edge, to the no return point, but we never took full awareness of it until today.
Well now that 90% of productive activities and businesses have been forced to a long standstill I am wondering, while they will all recover from the virus, how many of them will be able to get back to their business along with their employees?
This is going to have an unprecedented impact on the global economy which will change forever. We have the power to make it a better world and maybe the upside is that we'll not get to the no return point. Maybe this virus is a chance for all of us not to drift towards the edge but instead to grab the helm and lead mankind to a better tomorrow.
Just a thought from a home-locked human being in the craziest spring I could have never imagined.

Hello from Italy 🇮🇹
The situation has turned worse than we thought but yet it still affected less people than a regular flu would. Deaths are still increasing just because it comes from people who got infected before the lockdown.
The Italian ministry of health stated that lots of people may have recovered from what they thought was a flu, unaware it actually was the Covid19. This means that most of people would totally recover with no problem, hence the virus is likely to threat mainly those who already have health issues or the older people.
That said, we are in a lockdown, positive that it will soon be over (see what happened in China which started the whole process one month ahead of us). For the first time the number of deaths is decreasing compared to the exponential growth pattern it was following so far. Yesterday for the first time the city of Codogno (nicknamed the Italian Wuhan as this is were the Italian contagion has started) had ZERO new cases!
Meanwhile it feels like spring here, the air is clean as never before and we look forward to get back on track. We just hope that the other countries will do whatever it takes in order to do the same.
Thanks to all of those who wrote us to know how we are doing❤️

January 22nd 1944 one of the deadliest pages in WWII took place....the Anzio Landing, when the allies disembarked as close as possible to Rome. Way too many have died for freedom. Last weekend there were big celebrations for the anniversary.
