One of the most famous and distinctive celebrations is the “Carnival of Mamoiada” in central Sardinia, where participants wear elaborate, terrifying masks made from sheepskins and horns, known as “Mamuthones” and “Issohadores”. The Mamuthones are usually silent figures who represent the spirits of the past, while the Issohadores act as their counterparts, guiding them through the streets with long ropes.
The 16th of January marks the official beginning of the Sardinia’s Carnival and fires are lit up.

We have conducted a fantastic press trip in the eternal city with a Guided Tour led by our Marilena Barberi in three secret spots of the Eternal City on board of our funny Golf Carts.

Her 40 years experience as tour guide and travel professional has been fully acknowledged by the important people hosted by Italy with Class.

We have climbed the rooftops of the Roman Forum of the marvelous church of Santi Cosma e Damiano exclusively opened for us. The basilica was originally built in the 6th century by Pope Felix IV and consecrated in 530 AD. The church was constructed over an ancient Roman temple, which was dedicated to Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome. The reuse of the pagan structure for a Christian basilica is significant in the early Christian transformation of Rome.

Inside, the basilica is known for its mosaic decorations, particularly those in the apse, which depict Christ in Majesty, surrounded by the Virgin Mary, Saints Cosmas and Damian, and angels. The mosaics date from the early Byzantine period and are a significant example of early Christian art.

From a public restricted area, passing through the still lived refectory and convent, we went up to a terrace overlooking the outstanding Roman Forums.

Our luxury journalists where then led to an exclusive opening of the Mithraeum of the Circus Maximus with a dedicated underground specialist guide, one of the most significant archaeological sites related to the cult of Mithras in ancient Rome. These temples were often constructed in subterranean spaces or caves, creating a mysterious atmosphere. They typically had a long, narrow shape, designed to evoke the idea of a sacred, hidden space.
The Mithraeum of the Circus Maximus was discovered in 1911 during excavations for the construction of a public garden and is located beneath the archaeological area of the Circus Maximus.

We ended the tour admiring the famous sculpture of the Mosè Michelangelo's masterpiece in San Pietro in Vincoli church, and we all agreed he was able to talk with its own endless beauty.
