The year ends with a sad news: the former Pope Benedict XVI has died at his Vatican residence, aged 95, almost a decade after he stood down because of ailing health.

He led the Catholic Church for less than eight years until, in 2013, he became the first Pope to resign since six centuries. It was Francis who on Wednesday announced the news of Benedict’s final decline to the world. The body of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, whose birth name was Joseph Ratzinger , will be in Saint Peter's Basilica so the faithful can bid farewell" from Monday, January 2nd. RIP Pope Benedict.

Created in the second century A.D. by an anonymous Roman sculptor, this recently restored sculture represents the Three Graces - Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and Thalia - who are the shining daughters of Zeus, companions of Aphrodite, and are the ancients who embody beauty, joy, and harmony. In the sculpture, they are naked in a harmonious embrace holding flowers, fruits, and seeds in their hands.
