🔎Exploring the captivating world of Phidias at the Capitoline Museums!
The first monographic exhibition dedicated to the greatest sculptor of the classical age.
It is said of Phidias that he alone had seen the exact image of the gods and that he revealed it to man.

Exciting news!
🏛The Archaeological Park of the Celio and the Forma Urbis Museum in Rome have just opened their doors unveiling their treasures!

✏️The Forma Urbis Romae is an ancient marble map of the city dating back to the age of Septimius Severus.
We can see just some fragments, but it's enough to appreciate the greatness of this project.

🚶‍♀️ Walking across the glass floor with marble fragments of the city's original map was an emotional journey!

🔎It was more than just a walk; it was a profound experience of bridging the past and present!

Cultural Enrichment vs. Spectacularization: Finding the Balance ✨
Basilica Ulpia. New view of the completed anastylosis project.

🏛The Basilica Ulpia was built by Apollodorus of Damascus between 106 and 113 AD.

💲 This restoration project was possible thanks to 1.5 million euro donation from a Uzbekistan businessman.

✏️Anastylosis is a restoration technique, concerns about the reconstruction of structures or buildings of which contiguous elements have been found.

🗝 The key to anastylosis is that, as far as is possible, the original architectural elements and materials  are used to reassemble the structure.

📝 Distinguishability, reversibility, minimal intervention, stratified historicization, and significant archaeological value are some of the keywords that guided the parties involved in drafting the executive project.

⚠️Restoration can be controversial.

❓️What portion of a structure should be reconstructed, and how much new material is suitable alongside the original components?

❓️Is it better to seamlessly blend the new material or deliberately distinguish it from the old?

♨️The fountain was inaugurated in 1901, but the nudity of the four water Nymphs (Naiadi) aroused nomerous controversies,
so, the work remained hidden by a wooden enclosure for a long time
💃Finally, however, the city council decided that the figures should stay.
🐠 🐡 🐬 The artwork initially included also three tritons, a dolphin, an octopus, ironically renamed by the Romans "the mixed fry"🐟

Francesca is an outstanding guide with superb knowledge of Rome and its history. She made our walking tour memorable by not only pointing out, and discussing, the major tourist attractions, but also making recommendations for local shops and eating places. She showed us places and alleyways that without her guidance we would have walked right by and never gotten the true feeling of Rome. I would highly recommend Francesca to anyone visiting Rome.
