🌻 On this day dedicated to women, we celebrate the artistic heritage and foresight of a great Tuscan woman:
Maria Luisa De Medici (1667 - 1743)

We know that the Medici family was the dynasty that ruled Florence for three centuries, making it the cradle of the Renaissance.

We owe to Maria Luisa the immense artistic heritage that is admired every year by visitors from all over the world.

As the last representative of the De Medici family, in 1737 with the ‘Family Pact’ she established that all paintings, statues, libraries and other precious things should be left in Florence for public use and to attract the curiosity of foreigners.

Maria Luisa de’ Medici was a great figure of wisdom, a model for all women struggling to assert their intelligence, creativity and passion.
Her legacy, still visible today in the artistic beauty of Florence, reminds us how women can be engines of transformation and progress, leaving a tangible and lasting mark.

Time for autumn and festivals! 🍂

The new season welcomes us in a change of colours, scents and flavours, and there are many festivals in Tuscany dedicated to autumn products such as chestnuts, truffles and onions.
Here are some proposals for a mouth-watering autumn that will let you discover good food but also some beautiful places not far from IL Borghetto.

➡️For onions :
📍Certaldo (FI) The Boccacesca festival is unmissable. In this delightful town that was the birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio , from 13 to 15 October, the streets will be filled with stalls to taste culinary products, including the unfailingly delicious sweet onion typical of the area .
There will also be music and other handicraft products.

➡️ For chestnuts :
📍Caprese Michelangelo (AR) where the Chestnut and Chestnut DOP Festival is held from 19 to 27 October.
The village owes its name to Michelangelo Buonarroti, who was born here on 6 March 1475 .
A fine opportunity to discover the origins of the great Renaissance artist.

➡️For truffle :
📍Volterra ( PI) . Market exhibition of the white truffle and typical products of the Alta Valdicecina.
From 26 to 27 October and 1 to 3 November, the town is packed with stalls selling typical products including truffles.
Lots of tastings in a town rich in history and craft products.

Pizza, what a goodness! 🍕🍕🍕
Pizza is undoubtedly an Italian icon famous all over the world, representing not only a delicious dish but also a symbol of Italian culture and tradition.
Pizza has ancient roots, with traces of similar dishes dating back to ancient Rome. However, the modern version of the pizza we know today originated in Naples in the 18th century.
There are several regional variations of pizza in Italy, each with its own unique characteristics.
Its versatility allows endless combinations of ingredients, ranging from the classic daisy and four seasons to the most modern versions with innovative toppings and dough.
It is true that we now eat pizza all over the world, however there is nothing more beautiful than enjoying a real Italian pizza, prepared here in Italy, with fresh ingredients and love.

Zuccotto, what a dessert ! 🍰
Florentine zuccotto is a typical traditional Tuscan dessert, dating back to the Renaissance under the Medici family in Florence. It is said to have been created by Buontalenti ( a great architect but also a good pastry chef ) for Caterina de’ Medici ( 1519-1589 ) to impress her guests.
The cake has a domed shape, reminiscent of the red headgear of priests, from which it takes its name because of the color of one of the ingredients but there are also other versions on the origin of the name.

The traditional recipe calls for a base of sponge cake soaked in alchermes ( a Florentine liqueur with a red color ), filled with ricotta or cream, chocolate, candied fruit and chopped almonds. After assembly, the zuccotto is chilled in the refrigerator or freezer.

Today there are many variations of zuccotto, including versions with ice cream such as the one made by our mom Silvana that alternates different flavors of ice cream with layers of cookies soaked in alchermes .
It is served in slices and for the sweet tooth with chocolate topping !
In Tuscany, it is a festive dessert, a symbol of tradition and conviviality. The Florentine zuccotto represents a piece of culinary history that continues to delight palates all over the world and we never fail to let you taste it at our dinners !

Wine and much more!🍷
For those who love wine and more, one of the most beautiful experiences to have is to visit wineries and taste their productions because knowledge of the area also passes through a good glass of wine !
This past weekend (May 4-5) the “Vino al Vino” event was held in Panzano .
We are in the heart of Florentine Chianti Classico and the various producers opened their cellars offering tastings of their wines.
We visited one of our favorite Chianti Classico producers Renzo Marinai, whose organic wines you can also taste during our dinners at Borghetto!
It was a great experience yesterday accompanied by one of the best pizzas you can find in Tuscany prepared right on the spot by Master Pizzaiolo Giovanni Santarpia
It is always nice to attend these events, not only for the wine but also and especially to have direct contact with the producers, hear their stories about production and visit the wineries .

If you missed this event , next weekend ( May 11-12 ) will be held “TastinGreve” in Greve in Chianti. It will be 21 wineries that from 10 am to 5 pm will introduce you to their wines .
Cost of ticket 25 euros for the two days to be purchased on site . Included in the price is wine glass , map of the area and tastings at all the wineries .

Beyond these events , every day you can visit by reservation all the wineries in the Tuscan territory.

🇮🇹Vino e molto di piu’!🍷
Per chi ama il vino e non solo, una delle piu’ belle esperienze da fare è quella di visitare le cantine e degustare le loro produzioni perché la conoscenza del territorio passa anche attraverso un buon calice di vino !
Nel passato weekend (4-5 Maggio) si è tenuto l’evento “Vino al Vino” a Panzano .
Siamo nel cuore del Chianti Classico fiorentino ed i vari produttori hanno aperto le cantine proponendo assaggi dei loro vini .
Noi siamo stati a trovare uno dei nostri preferiti produttori di Chianti Classico Renzo Marinai, i cui vini biologici li potete gustare anche durante le nostre cene al Borghetto!
Una bella esperienza quella di ieri accompagnata da una delle pizze piu’ buone che si trovano in Toscana preparate direttamente sul posto dal Maestro Pizzaiolo Giovanni Santarpia
E’ sempre bello partecipare a questi eventi, non solo per il vino ma anche e soprattutto per avere il contatto diretto con i produttori, sentire i loro racconti sulla produzione e visitare le cantine .

Se vi siete persi questo evento , il prossimo weekend ( 11-12 Maggio ) si terrà “TastinGreve”in Greve in Chianti. Saranno 21 aziende che dalle 10 alle 17 vi faranno conoscere i loro vini .
Costo del biglietto 25 euro per le due giornate da acquistare in loco . Nel prezzo è compreso calice , mappa del territorio e le degustazioni in tutte le aziende .

Al di là di questi eventi , ogni giorno è possibile visitare su prenotazione tutte le cantine del territorio toscano .
