Pizza is undoubtedly an Italian icon famous all over the world, representing not only a delicious dish but also a symbol of Italian culture and tradition.
Pizza has ancient roots, with traces of similar dishes dating back to ancient Rome. However, the modern version of the pizza we know today originated in Naples in the 18th century.
There are several regional variations of pizza in Italy, each with its own unique characteristics.
Its versatility allows endless combinations of ingredients, ranging from the classic daisy and four seasons to the most modern versions with innovative toppings and dough.

Zuccotto, what a dessert ! 🍰
Florentine zuccotto is a typical traditional Tuscan dessert, dating back to the Renaissance under the Medici family in Florence. It is said to have been created by Buontalenti ( a great architect but also a good pastry chef ) for Caterina de’ Medici ( 1519-1589 ) to impress her guests.
The cake has a domed shape, reminiscent of the red headgear of priests, from which it takes its name because of the color of one of the ingredients but there are also other versions on the origin of the name.

The traditional recipe calls for a base of sponge cake soaked in alchermes ( a Florentine liqueur with a red color ), filled with ricotta or cream, chocolate, candied fruit and chopped almonds. After assembly, the zuccotto is chilled in the refrigerator or freezer.

Today there are many variations of zuccotto, including versions with ice cream such as the one made by our mom Silvana that alternates different flavors of ice cream with layers of cookies soaked in alchermes .
It is served in slices and for the sweet tooth with chocolate topping !
In Tuscany, it is a festive dessert, a symbol of tradition and conviviality. The Florentine zuccotto represents a piece of culinary history that continues to delight palates all over the world and we never fail to let you taste it at our dinners !

Wine and much more!🍷
For those who love wine and more, one of the most beautiful experiences to have is to visit wineries and taste their productions because knowledge of the area also passes through a good glass of wine !
This past weekend (May 4-5) the “Vino al Vino” event was held in Panzano .
We are in the heart of Florentine Chianti Classico and the various producers opened their cellars offering tastings of their wines.
We visited one of our favorite Chianti Classico producers Renzo Marinai, whose organic wines you can also taste during our dinners at Borghetto!
It was a great experience yesterday accompanied by one of the best pizzas you can find in Tuscany prepared right on the spot by Master Pizzaiolo Giovanni Santarpia
It is always nice to attend these events, not only for the wine but also and especially to have direct contact with the producers, hear their stories about production and visit the wineries .

If you missed this event , next weekend ( May 11-12 ) will be held “TastinGreve” in Greve in Chianti. It will be 21 wineries that from 10 am to 5 pm will introduce you to their wines .
Cost of ticket 25 euros for the two days to be purchased on site . Included in the price is wine glass , map of the area and tastings at all the wineries .

Beyond these events , every day you can visit by reservation all the wineries in the Tuscan territory.

🇮🇹Vino e molto di piu’!🍷
Per chi ama il vino e non solo, una delle piu’ belle esperienze da fare è quella di visitare le cantine e degustare le loro produzioni perché la conoscenza del territorio passa anche attraverso un buon calice di vino !
Nel passato weekend (4-5 Maggio) si è tenuto l’evento “Vino al Vino” a Panzano .
Siamo nel cuore del Chianti Classico fiorentino ed i vari produttori hanno aperto le cantine proponendo assaggi dei loro vini .
Noi siamo stati a trovare uno dei nostri preferiti produttori di Chianti Classico Renzo Marinai, i cui vini biologici li potete gustare anche durante le nostre cene al Borghetto!
Una bella esperienza quella di ieri accompagnata da una delle pizze piu’ buone che si trovano in Toscana preparate direttamente sul posto dal Maestro Pizzaiolo Giovanni Santarpia
E’ sempre bello partecipare a questi eventi, non solo per il vino ma anche e soprattutto per avere il contatto diretto con i produttori, sentire i loro racconti sulla produzione e visitare le cantine .

Se vi siete persi questo evento , il prossimo weekend ( 11-12 Maggio ) si terrà “TastinGreve”in Greve in Chianti. Saranno 21 aziende che dalle 10 alle 17 vi faranno conoscere i loro vini .
Costo del biglietto 25 euro per le due giornate da acquistare in loco . Nel prezzo è compreso calice , mappa del territorio e le degustazioni in tutte le aziende .

Al di là di questi eventi , ogni giorno è possibile visitare su prenotazione tutte le cantine del territorio toscano .

Tuscan Flavours 😋
Today we talk about a dish that we love to cook for you and that has been part of the Tuscan tradition since ancient times, namely “Scottiglia”, so called for the method of searing the meats in the pot before adding the other ingredients.
It’s a rich and succulent dish that is prepared with mixed meats, tomatoes, and aromatic herbs, a flavorful sauce in which you can't miss to do the so called "scarpetta," soaking the bread into it with your fingers!
We also add potatoes to make it more complete. For those who prefer, we offer our special vegetarian version.
We can't wait to turn the stove back on!

Oggi vi parliamo di un piatto che ci piace cucinare per voi e che fa parte sin dall’antichità della tradizione toscana , la“Scottiglia“, così chiamata per il metodo con cui vengono scottate le carni nel coccio , prima di aggiungere gli altri ingredienti.

Today we take you to the rooftops of San Gimignano to enjoy the charming view from the top of the Torre Grossa, the highest tower in San Gimignano, 54 meters tall.

The gaze is lost over the roofs of the city, the squares, the alleys, the palaces and the rolling hills up to the mountains of the Apuan Alps with snow-capped peaks in January.
A must-do experience for any time of the year!

Il Borghetto and its colors 🎨

Here are some pictures of some bedrooms of our Villa.
The hamlet, being a historic building, has maintained its original characteristics including the colors of the plaster, which recall old time.
In fact, the walls of the bedrooms are all different with colors ranging from the softest to the brightest.

In the various apartments you will find rooms with white, sand, yellow, ocher walls up to stronger colors such as green, pink, amaranth, light blue.
All of them offer a very warm and relaxing atmosphere.

We can't wait to make you have beautiful dreams in our bedrooms!!!✨🌟

oggi vi mostriamo alcune delle camere da letto dei nostri appartamenti.

“Il borghetto “ essendo un edificio storico ha mantenuto le sue caratteristiche originarie tra cui i colori degli intonaci, che ricordano i tempi passati.
Le pareti delle camere infatti sono tutte diverse con colori che vanno dai più tenui ai più accesi.

Troverete nei vari appartamenti camere con le pareti bianche, color sabbia, gialle, ocra fino ad arrivare ai colori più forti come il verde, rosa, amaranto, azzurro.
Tutte quante regalano un'atmosfera molto calda e rilassante.

Non vediamo l'ora di farvi fare dei bei sogni nelle nostre camere!!!✨🌟

🌳Here is a glance at the Villa from above, surrounded by vineyards and framed by beautiful and ancient cypresses and other native trees.
Positioned on several levels, the building follows the natural slope of the ground.

🏊🏻‍♂️The swimming pool is located at the highest point, it is surrounded by olive trees and aromatic plants for a romantic shelter from the sun.

🏡Every window in the villa overlooks nature, as does the terrace of our family restaurant which overlooks the vineyard below.
We already imagine you here!

🌳Oggi vi facciamo vedere la nostra casa dall’alto, circondata da vigneti ed incorniciata da bellissimi e antichi cipressi ed altri alberi autoctoni.
Posizionata su più livelli, la costruzione segue il naturale declivio del terreno.

🏊🏻‍♂️La piscina si trova nel punto più alto, immersa tra gli olivi e piante aromatiche per un romantico riparo dal sole.

🏡Ogni finestra della casa ha lo sguardo sulla natura, così come la terrazza del nostro ristorante che affaccia direttamente sulla vigna sottostante.

Ready for 2024?

We are in the final hours of 2023, it has been a beautiful year for us thanks to you who came to spend your holidays at Il Borghetto and shared your dreams and desire to get to know our land with our family.
Heartfelt thanks to all the new guests we met and to the many who often return to visit us and who have made Il Borghetto their second home.

If on the one hand we are sad for a year that is coming to an end, on the other we are growing emotion and curiosity for the year that is about to arrive. Who knows what good things it will bring us again!
First of all we hope that peace and serenity will return throughout the world and then we hope that you can make your dreams and resolutions come true.

Siamo alle ultime ore del 2023, un anno che è stato per noi bellissimo grazie a voi che siete venuti a passare le vostre vacanze a Il Borghetto e avete condiviso con la nostra famiglia, i vostri sogni e la voglia di conoscere la nostra terra.

A very sweet Christmas!🎄💫💖

We wish you all the best for these upcoming holidays. We are already preparing 😉
We will spend these days in peace sharing good food and especially time with the people we love as well as wish to do to all of you.
Among the things that will not be missing on our table, there will be traditional desserts. Let's take advantage of this wish to tell you about them.

For Christmas there are many typical Tuscan sweets and each area of the region has its own preferences but the most popular are almost all of Sienese origin.
They are made with dried fruit and candied fruit, honey, wafers, almond paste, spices, chocolate, liquor and more, here is a small selection:

There is also no shortage of Cantuccini di Prato ( almonds biscuits) which are a dessert all year round!!

Vi facciamo un grande augurio per queste feste ormai prossime. Noi siamo già ai preparativi 😉
Trascorreremo questi giorni in tranquillità condividendo del buon cibo e soprattutto del tempo con le persone che amiamo così come auguriamo di fare a tutti voi.
Tra le cose che non mancheranno sulla nostra tavola, ci saranno i dolci della tradizione. Approfittiamo di questo augurio per raccontarveli.

Per Natale tanti sono i dolci tipici toscani ed ogni zona della regione ha le sue preferenze ma i più popolari sono quasi tutti di origine senese.
Sono fatti con frutta secca e canditi, miele, ostie, pasta di mandorle, spezie, cioccolato , liquore ed altro ancora, ecco una piccola selezione:

PICI VERSUS PAPPARDELLE
Today we propose you two fresh pasta dishes that have been part of the Tuscan tradition since ancient times and that we cook with love and offer to our guests in our menus as it is well known that the knowledge of a place also passes through the knowledge of food.
Pici pasta have the shape of large spaghetti and their origin dates back to the time of the Etruscans.
They can be seasoned with different sauces, our favorite is the Aglione sauce, made with tomato and a special garlic called ''aglione'' which gives an intense and delicate aroma and flavor at the same time, it is a garlic that reaches large dimensions.
Pappardelle, unlike Pici which are rolled up, is a flattened and cut pasta about 2 cm wide.
We find this pasta in Tuscany since Middle Age and it is mainly seasoned with meat sauce such as our Chianina Ragù or in a vegetarian version with the so-called ''Ragu' Finto'' (fake ragù) made only with vegetables.

And which of these pastas do you like best?

PICI vs PAPPARDELLE !

Oggi vi proponiamo due piatti di pasta fresca che fanno parte sin dall’antichità della tradizione Toscana e che con amore cuciniamo e vi proponiamo nei nostri menu’ perché la conoscenza di un luogo passa anche attraverso la conoscenza del cibo.
I Pici hanno la forma di grandi spaghetti e la loro origine pensate un pò risale al tempo degli Etruschi.
Si possono condire con diverse salse, la nostra preferita è la salsa all’Aglione, fatta con pomodoro e un aglio speciale chiamato appunto ‘’ aglione ‘’che dona un profumo ed un sapore intenso e delicato allo stesso tempo, un aglio che raggiunge grandi dimensioni.
Le Pappardelle a differenza dei Pici che si arrotolano , è una pasta spianata e tagliata larga circa 2 cm.
In Toscana la troviamo già dal tempo del Medioevo e si condisce principalmente con sughi a base di carne come il nostro Ragù di Chianina o in versione vegetariana con il cosìdetto ‘’ Ragu’ Finto’’ fatto solo con le verdure.

VINCI and LEONARDO
Today we take you to Vinci, a medieval town known for being the birthplace of the great genius of the Renaissance: Leonardo da Vinci.
The life of the town today still revolves around the figure of Leonardo.
Very relaxing and evocative to walk through the little squares and streets of the town where there are good restaurants and local wines ( Carmignano DOCG ), but if you want to delve deeper into Leonardo's life, don't miss these visits:

✅THE MAN OF VINCI - Wooden sculpture made by Mario Ceroli, in homage to the VETRUVIAN MAN by Leonardo

✅CHURCH OF SANTA CROCE, with its BAPTISM FOUNT where Leonardo da Vinci is said to have been baptised

3 km from the center of Vinci, in the ANCHIANO area, there is the CASA NATALE DI LEONARDO (farmhouse where Leonardo was born).

July and sunflowers Every year in July we like to celebrate the arrival of sunflowers. At this time of the year fields are filled with the bright yellow colour of sunflowers and it is easy to see these beautiful flowers as we travel through Tuscany. Even here near il Borghetto you can admire them and stop for a photo shoot immersed in these flowers that can also reach a considerable height. It is a beautiful and mysterious flower, the spirals formed by the floral pistils follow the Fibonacci numerical sequence. We are often asked why there are so many and what they are grown for. Nothing is thrown away of sunflowers!! They are grown both as flowers for decoration and for many other uses: the seeds, rich in nutrients, are a great snack and are also added to salads or bread dough, for example. From their pressing we obtain the oil, both for food use and for the production of cosmetics or other products. The pressed seeds are then dried and made into animal feed. From the marrow of the stem a fiber is extracted which is used for the production of fabrics and paper. The petals , rich in anthocyanins , are used as colorants . Palio di Siena Every year on July 2nd and August 16th in Siena the Palio race takes place in the beautiful Piazza del Campo, Siena’s main medieval, shell-shaped square. It is a horse race which consists of 3 laps around the square preceded by a parade and the alignment of the horses on the rope ( Canapo ) The jockeys ride bareback and wear colorful clothes bearing the colors of their contrada. It is such a heartfelt and evocative event that makes the city full of colors and visitors, streets animated by flag-wavers and dinner parties in the various districts ( Contrade ) . The first traces of the Palio race date back to the 12th century and since then it has been a highly anticipated event by citizens and visitors who come from all over the world to watch this famous horse race. Chianti Classico and other Chianti wines! The presentations of the new vintages began weeks ago and Sandra and Nicola are not missing these appointments. In Tuscany we have a great variety of wines but today we talk about the differences between the various types of Chianti. Chianti Classico was born in 1716 with the definition of the borders which highlighted a restricted area between the province of Siena and Florence and strongly suited to the production of wine. The name CLASSICO was given at the beginning of the last century to differentiate the wines of this particular area from the other Chianti wines produced in the rest of Tuscany.
