Week 16 2016

A great week with "il Mangione", "il Vecchio" and "il Tamarro" guided by the mountan guide "il Furbetto", skiing mainly cold snow with some small sections of corn.

In the Swedish Lapland, or the land of the midnight Sun, also known as Europe’s last wilderness, is the home for one of the training courses for becoming a a IFMGA/SBO mountain guide (www.sbo.nu). It is a great place to learn what is expected of you as a mountain guide when it comes to ski mountaineering.

The participants are expected to be able to plan a week with suitable skitours, where and when we will stay in a snow bivoac, bring the correct ratio of food and understand the complex situation one can encounter in the Swedish mountains in a safe and efficient manner.

Week 13 2016

The collaboration between us and MGT continues and we had a great week despite the weather shutting us down the last day. We managed to find some nice skiing, visited all the huts, wild ski-touring terrain, the mountain guide forgot his pack, the summit was touched and we official have all the verticals (that is still a secret).

Stellar cold smoke as a Grand Finale with the two boys and unfortunately they had to go back home to watch the possible Grand Slam, holding my fingers crossed. I hope to see you next year in a different place!

Magical cold "Folletti" smoke today, so we did both the front- and backside, all alone in a small valley. Now it is time to rest and we await the next cold storm arriving.

Summit at 17.00, the evening Sun came out, fresh cold smoke between 20-30 cm and we finally found the evening "Folletti". Magical evening, even the mountain guide got very excited, and tomorrow we continue.

The motto was "Earn your Turns" and the crew has done their last "lappkast" for a while. I hope to see you next winter, it was a great week, with some amazing runs in the Monte Rosa massif, even if it hadn't snowed for a while! Finished it with some creative thinking today!

The plan B was a better choice than Plan A (still it was a nice one) since there was still lot of room left for fresh tracks. Again it shows the beautiful approach using skins long time after the latest snowfalls, and we made for the food this time in Alagna!

Great team effort and we had to work and struggle hard today in the high mountain area of Monte Rosa. I still think that we got rewarded with a superb descent (and ascent), even still finding som untracked slopes.

Ski in and ski out from the mountain lodge, deep up and deep down in the "Boschi dei Folleti", we could hear them today. Great to have this feeling again after this strange winter in this area.

We have as a rule to do at least one new tour every time in order to continue discover the beauty of this place. This tour has some fantastic touring scenery and we think that the potential should be much better with better snow conditions (saw some great steeper lines). Nice lunch place and now we await the new snow.

Piemonte - Folletti Ski Touring

It has been a strange winter, I have never experienced this, and it took a long time before we could enter "Il Bosco dei Folletti". Today we did a recon tour and managed to stay away from the wind, expect the last meters of the summit, and we found some pockets with good turns. It looks good for the next days!

There are still some aspects and slopes with good quality snow to ski, if you know how the weather has been the last days. It was really a pity that the clouds came in a little earlier then expected and we got some "flatljus". Better luck next time!

Strange weather with low clouds hanging around all day long, but we got enough visibility to have a great ski down after all. Tracked (the kick-turn ridge of Christian) and skied down a valley all alone today, soft snow from top to bottom.

A classic in the Gran Paradiso National park and there where only a few tracks around. We did a "Freeride"-descent on the dark side and for those who are going up tomorrow will wonder why they did not go the day before. A 5-star snow descent!

A North America feeling today and we managed to spot Mont Blanc from a distance. The quantity of snow was perfect for skiing the gentle slopes and we did it Swiss-style, not freeriding, enjoying every bit of it.
