Molara is an island in north-eastern Sardinia and constitutes, together with the island of Tavolara, Molarotto, the peninsula of Punta Coda Cavallo and other minor rocks, a protected marine park.

There is few things you can do on island:

Hike

This is to say that the only way to explore the island is on foot. There are several hiking trails – all of them circular routes – that will take you to the main places of interest.
The hike is moderate, with some minor ascents and descents over easy terrain, but you need light hiking shoes for that. Different trails have different lengths – there are 6 km trails and longer.

Visit the farm

One of the highlights of visiting Molara island is the possibility of exploring the ruins of the old farm and the annexed manor house, which date back to the 19th century.

And the church

Located in the northwest part of the island, close to Cala Chiesa beach, you’ll be able to spot the ruins of a tiny medieval church (San Ponziano church)

Going to the Beach

You won’t find long, sandy beaches in Molara – they are more like small coves, usually a mix of sand and pebbles. Visitors usually hang out at Cala Sp****la, the only one where the zodiac of Associazione Molara docks and which is the only access point to the island. It’s a tiny cove with incredibly clear waters where you can swim and snorkel. As the island is part of a protected marine area, there is a lot of marine life here so make sure to bring your goggles to snorkel around!

How To Visit Molara Island

Molara is a private island and can only be visited on guided tours that include a boat ride, a guided hike around the island to visit the most important landmarks, lunch (a simple lunch with local ingredients) and free time at the beach. These depart from the small tourist harbor of Cala Finanza, about 25 minutes drive from Olbia and just about the same from San Teodoro. Parking in Cala Finanza is free.

Alternatively you can do what we did: book 4 hours a snorkelling trip to Tavolara and Molara through Aquarius Diving Centre located in Le Farfalle… half way to Cala Suaraccia beach from where you will depart ☺️

Witam,

🇮🇹 Mam na wynajem mieszkanie w Capo Coda Cavallo. Znajduje się w kompleksie mieszkań wakacyjnych - Salina Bamba.
Znakomity punkt dla osób planujących zwiedzić północy-wschód. Jedna z najbardziej znanych plaż Cala Brandinchi („małe Tahiti”) zaledwie 15 minut spacerkiem.

W okolicy piękny ogród, restauracje, minimarket, sklepy, biura podróży, fryzjer, spa, wypożyczalnie łódek, sprzętu do nurkowania itp. Kilka metrów od domu znajduje się także wypożyczalnia aut 🙂

Cala Suarracia - plaża z przepięknym widokiem na na wyspę Tavolara - tylko 6 minut pieszo. Odbywają się tam codziennie wycieczki na tą wyspę. W trakcie snorkellingu na wyspie Tavolara bardzo łatwo spotkać ośmiorniczki i innego rodzaju rybki oraz podziwiać niesamowity koloryt wody.

Bardzo dużą zaleta mieszkania jest jego położenie, także dla osób nie posiadających auta. Nie jest się „uwiązanym” do jednej plazy bo w jest ich tu pełno. Spokojnie można każdy dzień spędzić wybierając inny widok. Jest to także zaleta w wietrzne dni. Wszelkiego rodzaju zatoki są dużo spokojniejsze niż otwarte morze 🙂

Today is a bit cloudy day but it’s nice after days of sun ☀️ We went around to see if flamingos arrived. There is no so many at the moment but their amount will gradually increase in next weeks ☺️

You can meet them few minutes walk from our apartment in the pond opposite of Salina Bamba beach ☺️

Lets talk about another nice beach ☺️

Spiaggia delle Vacche - Cow Beach.
Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coves of the Gallura, the small beach features fine white sand, and has a length of only 30 meters. It faces north-west, offering breattaking views of Isola Tavolara, Isola Molara, Isolotto Rosso and the headlands of Porto San Paolo.

You can find there groups of polished granite rocks on both corners of the beach, and in the middle of the water you’ll see a few submerged rocks. That’s where you’ll want to go explore and spot some fish if you’d like to go snorkeling 🤿

The colors of those same rocks will turn different hues of red around sunset. Low hills with vegetation serve as a backdrop, so you’ll be sheltered from the wind.

Paddle boats or kayaks are available which at Cala Girgolu which is close to car park on the way to Cow Beach.

Spiaggia delle Vacche has no facilities, so bring something for shade, and a few refreshments and food to get you through the day.

If you plan to visit the beach by car, note that the parking area is located 300 meters south of Cala Girgolu. The rest of the trip will have to be done on foot. It’s not an easy walk, but it will definitely be worth it! It will take you about half an hour to get there. 

Highly recommended
