Having sold my beloved Villa Virago and retired as manager in October 2022, this page is now dedicated to my exciting new project, Villa Jezebel

Villa Jezebel was lovingly designed by a prominent architect as his own home, but sadly fell into a state of total disrepair due to a repossession and three decades of neglect and vandalism. This is the story of our renovation journey from uninhabitable

wreck to luxury villa offering eight spacious bedrooms, a private pool and direct beach access

We hope you enjoy the ride with us... It won't be easy but it will be an awful lot of fun

There's nothing more boring to me than a relentlessly tasteful home. I crave the kitsch, the weird, the right thing in the wrong place, just a touch of something clashing with the carefully thought out colour scheme, something way bigger than it has any right to be, and bonus points for something just a wee bit hideous.
It gives a space personality, makes me smile, makes me look twice in a way beige cushions, tasteful art or matching sofa and armchair sets never will.
I think it's about confidence. Once you've mastered the art of good taste and know it, you can let yourself have fun and play with bad taste. And I promise it'll elevate everything and make it so much more enjoyable. Everything from interior design to art to music (sound up for that one) to fashion. I promise you everything truly wonderful has just a dash of bad taste

You know all those "buy a house in Italy for a Euro" stories you see all over the place that sound too good to be true?

Well I certainly didn't buy my house for a Euro but I've somehow managed to become a real life cautionary tale about the utter nightmare renovation in Italy can be.

I've been very quiet about what's been going on because another fun fact about Italy is that you're open to a lawsuit for defamation EVEN if everything you say is true if you make the other party look bad. And since there's nothing I can say about my situation that won't make the other parties look bad, I'm stuck saying nothing at all (for now) since the other party has made it clear they'll fire off a defamation suit if I do.

But what I can tell you is that we FINALLY have a date for the court appointed engineer to come in and assess the true state of the site. Which, after 15 months (during which I've not even been allowed to set foot on my own property) is not a pretty picture.

Still, the view's nice at sunset isn't it?

Hopefully, hopefully, this will be a huge step forward and pave the way for me to get this site going again and finished

This isn't just the house of my dreams that I've been in love with for 15 years. This is my business, my income and where I currently have all of my assets. So emotionally, mentally and financially I need this to be done.

Onwards and bloody upwards.

Every single room should have at least one truly weird piece in it. Something that makes you look twice, that makes you smile, that makes you want to pick it up for a better look or something that makes you go "what the hell is that?"
Every. Single. Room.

Those are the pieces that get me up well before dawn to hunt through the mountains of crap at the flea market every week and those are the pieces that elevate a room and make it feel like home.

I can't WAIT to get all my weirdness out of storage and into Villa Jezebel so that other people can enjoy it as much as I do ❤️

I didn't realise a quad ride at sunset over the Giara was on my bucket list until I did it.

Views for miles, the air temperature perfect despite the heatwave and saying hello to little wild Giara horse families and their babies on the way

Six years ago today I bought Villa Jezebel at auction. I wasn't looking for another property but for nine years I'd loved her from afar.

Beachfront, quirky and abandoned for decades. She ticked all the boxes for me and I'd take a minute to daydream about owning her every time I passed by. Funny enough exactly a year and a day before the auction, I stopped for a swim at the beach right in front of her, turned to my friend Domi (in the picture with me here) and said "that's going to be my next project". But I didn't really believe it would happen.

For four years I worked hard to get the finances to renovate her, and after COVID hit and devastated my income for two years, I even sold my beloved Villa Virago so I could make the Villa Jezebel dream a reality.

Finally starting building work in September 2022 should have been an incredible moment for me. Sadly right from the start issues arose. After just six weeks of work, I was forced to close down the site. And for nine months now, she's stood empty and half derelict.

Those close to me know what an emotional rollercoaster the last several months have been. The immense stress, frustration and sleepless nights. I have full faith in my lawyer and engineer and genuinely believe the universe has a plan. Even if that plan isn't the one I had in mind, absolutely everything happens for a reason and it is always for the highest good. I've been through tough times in the past, and when I look back it's always with gratitude knowing that every single time those struggles changed me and changed my life for the better.

So even though it seems like everything has gone absolutely t**s up, I'm not stressing over it any more. I'm happy, already grateful, excited about what's coming next and have total faith that one day soon I'll look back and think "oh, that's why that had to happen"

Onwards and upwards. Always ❤️

Good morning from us ❤️
Am I always happy about rolling out of bed at 5.30am to walk my dogs before the heat kicks in? No. Of course I'm not. But I have never once come back from a dog walk and thought "I really regret doing that".
All this beauty just for me every morning ❤️
Now for coffee...

I'm convinced this island knows things.

I like to do a beach clean a couple of times a week. And when you're walking along, head down, picking up rubbish, you notice things you probably wouldn't otherwise see. Like this amazing paper Argonaut. It's incredibly rare to find these on shore and given that their shells are paper thin it's a downright miracle to find a perfect one

Finding these little gifts from time to time has me convinced that Sardinia sees me taking the time to clean up the rubbish and is thanking me for it

Summer walk mode ON.

In peak summer months, the only time I can walk my super high energy gun dogs without risking them dangerously overheating is at dawn.

The downside is an hour or two less sleep. But wandering around the Sardinian beaches and countryside at golden hour before the rest of the world wakes up is priceless.

I forgot how much I love this ❤️

Homegrown beans!

I'm missing my veggie patch this year. Produce in Italy is generally pretty amazing though. Green beans being the one exception. The ones you find for sale here are a bit too old, a bit too flabby and generally not massively appealing.

Homegrown and fresh off the plant they're nutty, crunchy and delicious so I planted a few pots up a while back and they're producing like crazy ❤️💚

I love being able to spend my Monday wandering around on the beach with the dogs.
I'm filling a bin bag with rubbish brought in by yesterday's bad weather, they're chasing seagulls and having a swim.
Lovely ❤️

We are NOT complaining about all the rain this week because we've been in Sardinia long enough to know we won't see any more for months. By September we'll be begging for a bit of drizzle.

So we're still out and about enjoying the greyness while it lasts ❤️

Every year our sleepy little town is the destination for Italy's longest religious procession when the statue of the patron saint of Sardinia (Sant'Efisio) is brought from Cagliari to his church here at Nora. It started nearly 400 years ago as a way of thanking the saint for freeing Cagliari from the plague.

A few years ago I decided to walk the full 65km route with the saint over the 4 days of the festival and as an atheist and foreigner I was surprised at how moving I found it.

This year I just didn't fancy facing the crowds and traffic to see the saint himself but still made the most of my favourite bits of the experience... cuddles with the bulls and horses who take part and the beautiful flowers people place on the roads outside their homes and businesses on the saint's route. The air smells like roses and wild fennel and with the locals dressed in traditional garb while checking their iPhones or grabbing a beer at the local bar there's something deliciously disorientating about feeling like you have one foot in the present day and one in the 17th century

This is the best part about waking up at Villa Jezebel. The sun rises out of the sea directly in front of the villa.

Wandering into the garden barefoot and coffee in hand to watch the sunrise every morning was my favorite part of living there

I needed this week to start well, so I wandered down there again this morning and I wasn't disappointed ❤️

Unpop**ar opinion alert.

I will never understand why people come to Sardinia in August. THIS is the time to experience the island at its best.

The temperature hovers deliciously around the mid 20's (Celsius that is) during the day with glorious sunshine pretty much guaranteed. On weekdays you'll find you have even the most famous and beautiful beaches all to yourself. There's no traffic, parking is almost always free and there's no queues for restaurants. No mosquitoes. And everything from accommodation to dinners out costs half of what it will in just 4 months time.

Take some advice from someone who has done 15 summers and 15 springs on this glorious island. This is the time to visit ❤️

Wild asparagus hunting.

It's one of my favorite things to do when out on dog walks and in Sardinia, depending on the amount of rain we get you can find them as early as autumn and right the way through into spring.

They're a lot smaller and thinner than farmed asparagus and have a slightly more bitter flavor. Some I'll eat raw while walking about, the rest go into an omelette with eggs from my hens. The best and healthiest free lunch you can get ❤️
