The small village of Pozzi where the Villa Maria Doria is located, sits in a privileged geographical position midway between the charming Apuan Alps and the Versilia riviera. Pozzi is of considerable archaeological importance for remains of a Etruscan settlement, dating from 6th Century B.C., were found here and can be seen in the archaeological museum in Pietrasanta. Also, during the Renaissance noble Florentine families, including the Medici, chose this area for their summer residence. Local historians think that the Villa Maria Doria was built around 500 years ago as that is the age of the olive trees that surround it. Over the years the buildings have been re-structured to accommodate contemporary life-styles but bits of history can still be found on the existing buildings. For example, the stemma (coat of arms) over the front door entrance of the villa is of the Lorraine family, the ducal successors of the Medici in Florence. This coat of arms was given to the present owner’s family – the Canci family – at the beginning of the 1800s for their devotion to the Lorraine dukes – a great honour for the family who still lives on the property.

Villa Maria Doria è stata costruita alla fine del 1500' come dimora di campagna di una nobile famiglia fiorentina. Molto è cambiato nel succedersi di 500 anni, ma la struttura architettonica originale di questa villa è rimasta integra e l'atmosfera del secolare oliveto influenza ancora l'intera proprietà. Villa Maria Doria offre cinque appartamenti indipendenti ciascuno con un tavolo privato in giardino, e all'interno dell'oliveto la zona ricreativa con la piscina in muratura 6 metri per 13. La Villa è situata in un parco di circa 8.000 metri quadrati circondata da 100 piante di olivi secolari, in uno degli angoli più belli della Toscana a pochi minuti dalle Alpi Apuane e dalla riviera della Versilia. La proprietà si trova in un'ottima posizione geografica in quanto vicina a luoghi di grande interesse sia culturale che turistico, ed è situata nel centro di un piccolo paese, dove non mancano negozi di alimentari, cartoleria, panificio, pizzeria, e ristoranti. Un soggiorno a Villa Maria Doria sarà un'indimenticabile vacanza per tutta la famiglia, offrendo la rara possibilità di vivere in un ambiente che ancora ricorda i tempi passati e ritmi ormai perduti nel mondo moderno.

Villa Maria Doria began in the 1500’s as a country farmhouse in the middle of a large olive grove located in a unique corner of Tuscany. It is both near to the Tyberian Sea and close to the Appuan Alps. Much has changed during the succeeding five centuries, but the basic architectural integrity of the original structure of the villa remains, and the ambience of the old olive grove continues to influence the entire property. The Villa offers five independent apartments each with private outside dining table. We have refurbished and modernized the property and added a large swimming pool. A stay at Villa Maria Doria will be an unforgettable vacation for the whole family. It offers the rare possibility of living in an environment still reminiscent of past times and rhythms now lost in the modern world.
