I teach English in Tuscany and this will be the third year of matching my university seniors with American volunteers to have friendly conversations once a week. Hi again... it's Patti, Roberto's wife, who jumps onto this site every now and then to promote my own pet projects ha ha :) I'm gearing up for a new University semester and, as always, on the hunt for anyone who wants to chat in English with an Italian college senior. If you are studying Italian, it can be a language practice exchange. These are almost all quite advanced students so easy to talk to. It's all voluntary. You commit to a videocall about 30 min every week-to- two weeks, giving them a truly invaluable chance to use real-world English, and you get an amazing chance to experience human connection and travel vicariously in today's tricky world. Can we agree that we could all use some friendly human connection?! Please dm me if you're interested!! If you think a friend would be interested, spread the word! I have dozens of students who will be interested.

Today we celebrate Liberation by the allies from the nazi-fascist regim. In our farm , we have a bomb shelter from 1944 , below we would like to share with you a beautiful historical anecdote.
In the Middle Age 1337 the Franciscan monks commissioned a Sienese sculptor, Lando di Pietro, to create a large wooden crucifix to be hung in front of the altar of the Basilica dell'Osservanza, located a few kilometers from Siena.
Centuries later, during the Second World War allied bombing of the Siena railway station, the bombs missed their target, unfortunately destroying the central body of the church. When the rescuers went to collect the objects not yet destroyed by the flames, they realized that the only piece of the ancient crucifix that remained intact was the head of Jesus. As soon as they picked it up, the head split into two equal halves. Indeed, Lando had not carved it from a single piece of wood but had instead glued two pieces together, leaving a small space where he placed a scroll with a prayer in Latin. May all the Saints pray to Jesus Christ, son of God, to have mercy on Lando and his family and save them from the hands of the enemy of God. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on all human beings. The artist's faith is striking, but even more so is the last sentence of this utterly secret, private prayer, "have mercy on all human beigns".
