Where does the name of Pizza Margherita come from?🍕

👸The name "Pizza Margherita" originates from an event that took place in 1889 when Queen Margherita of Savoy, the Queen of Italy, visited Naples. During her visit, she expressed a desire to try the local specialty, pizza, which at the time was considered food for the poor.

🇮🇹A local pizzaiolo (pizza maker) named Raffaele Esposito was tasked with preparing pizzas for the Queen. To honor her, Esposito created a special pizza featuring ingredients that represented the colors of the Italian flag: red (tomato), white (mozzarella cheese), and green (basil). The Queen reportedly enjoyed this pizza so much that Esposito named it "Pizza Margherita" in her honor.
