When, in the 19th century, aristocrats would descend on Italy as part of their Grand Tour, the man to whom they turned to explore Sorrento was Rodolfo Esposito, a legendary yachtsman whose handmade boats fulfilled every romantic’s dream. Over a century later, his great-grandchildren Giuseppe, Silvana and Massimiliano Esposito have built on his legacy by creating Capasecca, a charter company that operates yachting trips along the shores of Capri, Amalfi, Ischia and Procida. The company owns not just one but ten yachts, and manages 25 others for local families, chartering them out by the day or the week for up to 12 guests. What they offer is not only adventures along a famously picturesque coast but accommodation in an increasingly crowded region, so, as Silvana put it, “When there are no rooms at all to rent, you can sleep on board and enjoy the peace, but then have excursions into pretty towns, or lively beach clubs.” Capasecca’s concierge — which taps family connections that go back decades — can also organise land activities, from cooking and art courses to mountain hikes, and hire staff from nannies to private chefs for the full duration.
