This week is the European Mobility Week, an annual attempt to bring the cities closer to a more sustainable mobility. Siracusa, our hometown, has about 30km of bike lanes which is a lot for a Sicilian town. Of course our founder, Iris, commutes to work by bike as much as she can using our bike lanes. Being an Operator for Active and Sustainable Tourism we want to live by example; try to protect our territory and explore it in a gentle way. Better if it's with a Bianchi-bike of course.

International Pi Day is celebrated in many coutries around the world on March 14th. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant - which is approximately 3.14159.
What does this have to do with ? Well, the person who first calculated π was the most important citizen of our city - Archimedes of Syracuse! He lived from 287 to 212 BC and is considered the greatest mathematician of ancient history and one of the greatest of all time. His most famous inventions and scientific discoveries include the Archimedes‘ Screw (a device for raising water that is still used in crop irrigation and sewage treatment plants today) and Archimedes‘ principle of buoyancy. He proved the law of lever which led to one of his most famous quotes: „Give me a place to stand and I will move the earth.“
If you want to know more about Archimedes‘ inventions, Archimedes city and the times he lived in, contact us. knows all the stories about Archimedes and Syracuse.

On International Women's Day, we're already a bit proud that Iris Marischi is the only woman as the founder of a bike tourism company in Sicily. Still in the process of being built, Maremonti's business is already blessed with good booking numbers in its first year, and there's more to come. Typical female power! We wish all female entrepreneurs a happy International Women's Day and invite you to book a tour with Iris Marischi! Pictures: Iris on tour and on the day she received the key to her new business premises in 2023.

BEST OF THE WEST, May 19th - 24th, 2024
A fascinating 5-day tour along the west coast of Sicily. (Guided in English and German) This tour, classified as easy, mostly flat, mostly follows the coast, combined with detours to old fishing ports and through wineries to historic sites, ensuring that in addition to the biking experience, the culture and history of Sicily are not neglected. Starting from Trapani, we take the ferry to Favignana, an island best explored by bike. The next day, we continue along the Via del Sale to Marsala with its salt pans and windmills, further to Mazara del Vallo, where you can still discover the Arab influence, until we reach the „Cave di Cusa,“ a fascinating archaeological site. The final destination after a slightly hilly ride this time is Selinunte, an ancient Greek city, where we can still admire the magnificent Greek temples today. Destination and departure airport: Palermo.

The rich culture and many Arab, Greek, and African influences make western Sicily a treasure trove of exciting history and many stories that Iris knows how to tell.

Syrakus, Noto & Co entdecken
Self-guided Radtour: „A Taste of Sicily“

Also the newspaper in Iris‘ hometown reports on the launch of Maremontitours. Even though Iris has been living in Italy for more than 20 years and knows more about Sicily than many Italians, she is still closely connected to her homeland and has many guests from Austria and Germany who appreciate that German-speaking bike tours are also offered. A real asset in Sicily! Read more: https://m.noen.at/wr-neustadt/geschaeftseroeffnung-sollenauerin-startet-mit-bike-touren-in-sizilien-durch-408183181 also on the photo: Giuseppe Mangiafico.

Post.

What do Maremonti Tours and Archimedes have in common? The birthplace of both is Syracuse in Sicily. The exclamation “Eureka!” (Ancient Greek: εὕρηκα, romanized: héurēka) is attributed to the ancient scholar Archimedes from Syracuse. He reportedly proclaimed “Eureka! Eureka!” after he had stepped into a bath and noticed that the water level rose, whereupon he suddenly understood that the volume of water displaced must be equal to the volume of the part of his body he had submerged. He then realized that the volume of irregular objects could be measured with precision, a previously intractable problem. He is said to have been so eager to share his discovery that he leapt out of his bathtub and ran naked through the streets of Syracuse.

There's no better way to escape the cold winter. Away from the tourist crowds, this is the most beautiful time of the year for us to explore the breathtaking landscape by bike.
From early February until late March, you can witness a special natural spectacle in Sicily: the almond blossom. Against the pale blue spring sky, there is a sea of blossoms in delicate shades of pink. Particularly along the south coast of the island, in the area of Agrigento, vast almond orchards stretch out. Walking among the countless almond trees in the warm temperatures, you can smell the fragrance of the almond blossoms. As every year, the Almond Blossom Festival "Sagra del Mandorlo" takes place here from March 9th to 17th, 2024 - a cultural highlight.
Our guided bike tour takes you to the area of Avola, where Italy's largest almond production, including high-quality almonds like the "Pizzuta" variety, is located.
