A blissful April week in rural Umbria.

Just home from the most relaxing week with friends at this exceptional Umbrian hideaway. Off the beaten track up winding roads and surrounded by thickly wooded hills this really is the place to unwind. Clare and a Mario were wonderful hosts, full of great advice on places to visit and things to do when they were there on the first weekend, but the real beauty of the place was coming back and relaxing in total peace and dining al fresco under the stars with just the sound of a distant cow bell. There are numerous walks through the hills and lots of fascinating culture and architecture in the surrounding villages and towns. Plenty of fabulous places to sample traditional Umbrian cuisine and easy day trips to Assisi, Norcia, Spoleto, Perugia and Rome. The house has been sympathetically restored and retains all the charm of its ancient past yet has the luxury of a lovely pool which we used daily. We were fortunate to have perfect weather with temperatures in the mid to high 20s all week, the hills were vibrant with spring growth and birdsong and we dined on wild asparagus harvested from the verges. This is a very special place and one we hope to return to before long!
