Come che apre dopo anni per ospitare la mostra Planete dedicata alle spiritose opere dell’eclettica coppia francese Claude and Francois Xavier Lalanne. 🦔

I know, I tell you this every year but the opportunity is too good! Enjoying contemporary art in spaces usually closed to the public 😍😍😍.
Like Palazzo Rota Ivancichwhich opens after years to host Planete , the exhibition dedicated to the witty artworks of the eclectic French couple Claude and Francois Xavier Lalanne. 🦔

(🇮🇹 below) In the past Palazzo Ducale in Venice was the House of Parliament, where the three powers converged: legislative, executive and judiciary one.
🫣From outside one can see a 4 floors palace.
🫣Well, there is a 7 floors hidden building, within the palace, that cannot be seen from outside!!!!
🫣An intricated claustrophobic work of tiny rooms and dark mezzanine and confusing narrow staircases.
🫣Ready for of dungeons, misteries and secret passages?

In passato il Palazzo Ducale di Venezia era la sede dei tre poteri istituzionali: legislativo, esecutivo e giudiziario.
😱Dall'esterno si vede un palazzo di 4 piani.
😱Ebbene, all'interno del palazzo c'è un edificio nascosto di 7 piani che non si vede da fuori!!!!
😱Un intricato e claustrofobico ambiente di minuscole stanze, soppalchi bui e scale strette.
😱Pronto per un’esperienza lungo sotterranei e passaggi segreti?

(🇺🇸 below) Non è la prima volta che visito l’isola del Lazzaretto Nuovo ma stavolta grazie al Festival Venezia Urbis Scripta e alla Prof.Francesca Malagnini ho rinfrescato la memoria sul contenuto delle iscrizioni e dei simboli parietali di cui l’antico luogo di quarantena è ricchissimo.

Marchi commerciali, contumacia ed isolamento preventivo sono tutti concetti implementati dalla Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia.
Vigna murada (circondata di mura) già dal sec. XI a luogo di prevenzione per merci, equipaggi e navi a partire dal sec. XV.

It’s not the first time for me on the island of Lazzaretto Nuovo but this one, thanks to Venice Urbis Scripta Festival and to Prof. Francesca Malagnini I’ve refreshed my memory on the content of wall inscriptions and symbols of which the ancient place of quarantine is very rich.

Trademarks, contumacy and preventive isolation are all concepts implemented by the Serenissima Republic of Venice.
Vigna murada (vineyard surrounded by walls) already from the XIth century to a place of prevention for goods, crews and ships, starting from the XVth century.

Siamo stati travolti da broccati, passamanerie, nastri e merletti nel laboratorio delle meraviglie che è , dove mani esperte e sapienti si alternano in una danza, affinché l’esperienza sia unica e genuina.

THE DAYS OF THE FEMALE BLACKBIRD Many of you already know what I'm talking about. It's the coldest 🥶days of the year: 29th, 30th, and 31st January.
There is no scientific basis, in fact today meteorologists have already made a point in specifying that it’s not as cold as it should be. Let’s just say it’s always freezing towards the end of January around here, okay?
As a matter of fact the past week has been freezing cold with frost every morning up to 11am.
In any case, this morning 4°C were more than decent😅

But what has the blackbird got to do with all this?
The tradition is widespread throughout Northern Italy as it is usually colder than in the centre and the South.

There are inevitably different versions of the story. One is about a lady named De Merli (which means "of the blackbirds"), who in 1600, to join her husband, crossed the frozen PO' on foot, and another one about a cannon called La Merla which was dragged by soldiers on the same frozen big Italian river.

The dearest and best known one, however, refers to the once-up-a-time snow-white female blackbird, which, seeking for shelter from the cold and the harassment of a mischievous January, hid inside a chimney for three days.

When it came out, on February 1st, either alone or with the chicks 🐤 depending on the version 😇, it was all covered in soot and so it remained forever. #.

(🇬🇧🇺🇸 below) Nella campagna veneta la sera del 5 oppure del 6 gennaio, si celebrano rispettivamente il Pan e Vin e il Brusa la Vecia 🧙🏼‍♀️ (brucia la vecchia).
In entrambi i casi si tratta di un grande falò per disfarsi del passato e propiziare il futuro grazie alle fiamme purificatrici del fuoco 🔥.
Si intonano cori e poi si approfitta del rinfresco offerto dalla famiglia contadina che organizza il rogo: mandarini 🍊, arachidi 🥜, pinza (un dolce povero ma molto energetico fatto di pane 🥖 e frutta secca) e vin brûlé a volontà per scaldare i cuori ♥️!
Un momento conviviale per ritrovarsi e rinnovare gli auguri per il nuovo anno.
Per me è stato un po’ catartico, non riuscivo a staccare gli occhi dal fuoco 🔥.

In the Venetian countryside on the evening of January 5th or 6th, Pan e Vin (Bread and Wine) or the Burn the Vecia 🧙🏼‍♀️ (the old witch) are respectively celebrated.
Either way it's a great bonfire to get rid of the past and propitiate the future thanks to the purifying flames of fire 🔥.
choirs are sung and when the fire is almost out refreshments are offered by the landlord family who build the stake: tangerines 🍊, peanuts 🥜, pinza (a poor but very energetic cake made of bread 🥖 and dried fruit) and plenty of mulled wine to warm hearts ♥️ !
A convivial moment to get together and renew your wishes for the new year.
It was a bit cathartic for me, I couldn't take my eyes off the fire 🔥.
