❓DID YOU KNOW❓Venice has an ancient tradition that continued until the 1950s and was recently restored in 2019: the pontoon bridge that connected Fondamente Nove to the cemetery of San Michele.
During the days of the commemoration of the dead, the bridge served as a direct connection between the city and the cemetery. In this way, venetians could say goodbye to their loved ones by crossing the bridge on the lagoon. The tradition has not been renewed this year.

🎃 “Fave dei Morti” are typical Venetian biscuits that have their origins in an ancient tradition: they replaced the roasted beans that were eaten in the past on the occasion of the feast of the dead.

👻 Pliny considered broad beans a “protective charm”, a symbol of the dead and their prosperity.

🎃 The tradition of eating this legume during the “Feast of the Dead” appears to have very ancient origins and, some sources, trace it back to a custom from which the name “Calle della fava” in Venice also derives.

👻 They usually are made in three different colors. The three colors symbolize the cycle of life: white is birth, pink is life, and brown is death.

🎃 The traditional recipe uses almond flour, sugar and eggs white but try making them at home in the vegan version by replacing the egg white with fava bean water, they will be delicious 😋

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! 👻🎃💀

🎭 Venice’s masks have always been a central feature of the celebration of Carnevale .
In the 1700s, masks where popular and sometimes even mandatory to preserve the anonymity of visiting nobles doing things forbidden back home.
At Carnevale everyone wore masks and the most popular were based on standard characters of the comic theatre style known as Commedia dell’arte.
We all know the famous trickster Harlequin, the beautilful and cunning Columbina and the long- nosed Doctor Pantalone.

🔱 One of Venice’s most famous festival is CARNEVALE, the weeks-long Mardi Gras.
The word Carnevale means “farewell to meat” and originated centuries ago as a wild two months long party leading up to the austerity of Lent.
In Carnevale’s heyday (the 1600s and 1700s) you could do pretty much anything with anybody from any social class if you were wearing a mask.
The festival was outlawed entirely in 1797 and the use of masks became strictly forbidden. After a long absence, the Carnival returned in 1979.

☕️ Did you know? Caffè Florian is the most famous Venetian cafe and one of the first places in Europe to serve coffee. It’s been a popular spot for a rendezvous in Venice since 1720.

☕️ Casanova, Lord Byron, Charles Dickens enjoyed the luxurious ritual of coffee’s public consumption.

☕️ The original name was “Alla Venezia Trionfante”. In a short time it was unanimously renamed “Florian” as the name of the owner, Floriano Francesconi.

Let’s enjoy a coffe with soy milk sitting in the most beautiful living room of the world 🙃

Did you Know❓

🌊 Venice rises up in a lagoon, it's not open sea. The lagoon of Venice is a large area of shallow sea separated from the Adriatic Sea by a series of islands and long strips of land forming a littoral barrier. Its surface area is about 212 sq mi and it's not so deep: you could walk across most of it without getting your hair wet!
