Amazing news! American travelers are allowed to fly to Italy for tourism, with no quarantine, on Delta’s COVID-free flights.

Ruth flew Delta COVID-free flights round trip Rome-Atlanta in April: safe, clean and easy. You need to have a negative COVID test taken 72 hours before flight, another test taken at airport at check-in and another negative test upon arrival in Italy. Absolutely worth it!

Just in time for Italian summer!

The airline will offer flights requiring coronavirus tests for U.S. travelers starting Sunday.

During Italy’s lockdown, we spoke about living in a period of “tempo sospeso” or suspended time. With the reopening of Italy’s tourism industry, we feel hopeful. What a joy to finally prepare our apartments for guests, have an aperitivo at Ananasso and eat dinner at our favorite spot Gianni Franzi.

Yesterday was the FIRST time we’ve been to Vernazza since February...and it was a wonderful feeling. People are understandably worried about the economy, but Vernazzans are resilient so I found everyone in a good, "let's consider this a prolonged vacation" mood. Restaurants, bars, gelaterie and shops are starting to open. The train was surprisingly clean and organised for social distancing.

Italians are required to wear masks to stores, on public transport, etc. and we just do it. Since everyone is wearing a mask and practicing social distancing, it’s just our new normal. Wearing a mask protects your health and everyone else’s health too.

On June 3, Italians will be permitted to travel anywhere in Italy (currently we must stay in our home region), and travelers from European Union countries will be able to enter Italy without quarantine. I am cautiously optimist!
