The challenges to make it happen are now behind us and thankfully so, its now time for our industry and our entire Island community to embrace this incredible opportunity that we have to showcase our Island to the world and start to once again benefit from the impacts of set-jetting.
The second most influential factor in booking your next holiday after a recommendation from a family member or friend. This isnt a new phenomenon, Jersey has already experienced the significant positive effects back in the 1980’s from ‘The Bergerac Effect’ and it’s time for a second wave!
This is exciting, this is positive, this is great news and we hope that this will significantly raise exposure and demand for our Island as a visitor destination.
LIVE today at 13:00 on Instagram Live @delitalia_uk our Co-CEO @marcuscalvani will be interviewed by UK TV Celebrity @joehurdcook on the state of the hospitality industry, what are/can governments do to support growth in their visitor economies and what are the challenges and opportunities right now… tune in!
Visit The Channel Islands?
Visit The Channel Islands?
Just one strategy consideration mentioned in the new Jersey Visitor Economy Strategy.
Is it time for us to file away the historic rivalry and start working together to build a ‘bigger pie’ and all benefit?
There are endless global examples of the success of this approach: The Virgin Island, The Cayman Islands, The Bahamas etc.
Just imagine the appeal and global pull that visiting The Channel Islands and the surrounding Normandy area could have… maybe the ultimate global destination for War History enthusiasts? A globally leading destination for culinary tourism?
Celebrating what is authentically ours, celebrating our unique geographic location, our history, our heritage etc.
Maybe even changing the way we travel between the Islands and France? Look at The Faroe Islands for example…

Work Permit Proposal Update
Work Permit Proposal Update:
In the States this morning, the Home Affairs Minister, Deputy Helen Miles, announced that she would be making some significant changes to the work permit scheme. Following a business case brought by Ana and Marcus who have been consulting with JHA Members and any other industry representative bodies, a new 12-month temporary work permit will be introduced.
The Minister stated that it will be possible to extend it so that it lasts for a maximum period of 3 years after which time the temporary worker will need to leave Jersey.
Ana and Marcus said:
“Finding qualified and professional staff to fill the vacancies in our industry is an endless challenge to business owners, made worse by Brexit and the pandemic.
We hope our members will be relieved to hear that the Minister is making these much-needed changes as a matter of priority.
After substantial consultation with our members, we worked on a case to meet the greater industry’s needs and took it to immigration and the Minister, we are pleased that steps have been made in the right direction to deliver this proposal and that this new permit solution will sit in addition to the existing 9-month permit.
We are incredibly excited about what this will mean for hospitality and the positive impact it will have on sustainable high level employees for our industry.
We look forward to continuing to work closely and openly with the Minister and her team to iron out the details to make sure that the full needs of the industry are answered and that the solution gets delivered as quickly as possible.
We are very grateful that our industry is being listened to and actions to remove barriers to business success are being implemented.”
Your Co-CEO’s will continue to work on the delivery of the Association’s proposal to make sure that the end solution and the fine details, meets the needs of our greater industry.
