Our mission is to make known the many battles and battlefield sites in and around Jersey which are part of our Island's rich military history. It could be said that in European terms, Jersey has for the last 800 years or so, found itself on a European front line in the continent's turbulent military history. There are few places in the world which can boast the quality and quantity in such a small
area! Even before that period, the inhabitants of the Island had to defend themselves from marauding invaders and there is evidence of many defended sites going back at least 3000 years. Our battlefield tours and walks are conducted by Marc Yates of Jersey Military Tours, and we aim to explore key events, battlefields and the characters who have shaped the Island’s military history. Jersey Military Tours' other regular tours include:
• 3000 years of Military History
• Medieval Jersey – the castle builders, periods of frequent invasion and battles and the First Occupation by the French
• The Age of Artillery – a new defence strategy which saw the Island bristling with British forts and hundreds of cannon to ward off the French
• The Battle of Jersey, 1781 - a European battle in the War of American Independence when the a young English major prevented a French attempt to take the Island
• The German Occupation – changing lives and the landscape. The heroes and heroines both civilian and military, as well as some military actions
• The German Bunker Tour – exploring German fortifications around the Island. Jersey Military Tours' tours, and that of our sister brand, History Alive! mix the military history and heritage of the Island with its stunning beauty. We use up to date luxury tour vehicles, explore sites on foot and use some modern technology as well as good old fashioned props to enhance the experience. Marc Yates, a Jersey-man born and bred, has had a passion for the Island’s military history since a young age, and after a legal career, is now on a mission to bring that history alive to young and old. Marc is a member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides and is currently working towards his badge. Scheduled tours as well as custom private tours available for groups, cruise ship guests and conference delegates.
