One of the best parts of Christmas is the Christmas fairs. Last week Sunday we encountered a new product that we sampled this morning - coffee rum syrup. Amazing - drained my cup! I WILL have a spirited day! I think that you can scan but here is the IG just in case.

Checking out new locations, sampling products ... all in a day's work for our team. This rum punch makes the list because it was exceptional - just like Mum used to make. Maybe they used her recipe which is
1 of sour (lime juice will do)
2 of sweet (use a simple syrup or cordial)
3 of strong (RUM of course!) and
4 of weak (water or fruit juice)

Use those proportions and you'll get a perfect rum punch every time. Try it and tell us what you think!

Have you ever heard of Ben Johnson day? No, not the Canadian sprinter although he IS of Jamaican heritage. Thursdays are commonly referred to as Ben Johnson day in Jamaica and here is why - Ben Johnson Days are Thursdays- the day before the traditional payday which is Friday . On Ben Johnson days, pockets are usually empty (no money), and so were the pantries- except for a few scraps of food.Lost to history is who Ben Johnson was and why he was associated with empty larders!

May you never have a Ben Johnson Day!

This morning as I sipped some Colombian coffee out of a mug that I bought at Stonehenge in the UK it brought back memories of great trips to those countries.
Today we're asking "What food related souvenirs do you take home from Jamaica, and why?" Feel free to share some photos to make it more fun!

Sunsets in St. Ann can be stunning. We took this picture of an old chimney just as the sun was saying bye bye. We don't know the history but this would have been part of a sugar plantation. We call St. Ann 'the garden parish' because of its agricultural output and it was home to several sugar plantations.

So this is a group activity! What do YOU do with rum?

I'll start - rub down after a wetting to avoid catching a cold, mix it with honey & lime for a sore throat, soak my fruit in it for Christmas.... I'll stop there to give someone else a chance.

What do YOU do with rum (drink it doesn't count! LOL)
