Meet Rafaella Roccoletti, a compassionate volunteer with Jamaican roots. Driven by a deep connection to her heritage, Rafaella embarked on a transformative journey to explore her ancestral roots and give back to Jamaica. As the granddaughter of Jamaican immigrants who settled in England, she felt a strong calling to reconnect with her roots and make a meaningful impact.

With raised funds, she embarked on a community project in 2022 at the Women's Resource and Outreach Centre (WROC). Inspired by her impact, she returned in 2023 to create a captivating mural at Evans Basic School in Manning's Hill. As cars rolled by, their pace slowed, captivated by the vibrant artwork adorning the school walls. Onlookers stood in awe, their eyes fixed on the mesmerizing transformation. Raffaella's profound work will forever echo through the community, etching her name in their hearts for years to come.

A Woman's Journey of Love and Hope

Have you ever crossed paths with someone and felt an irresistible pull? If you have, then you'll understand the profound connection I experienced upon meeting the extraordinary woman I now fondly refer to as "Jamaica Mother Theresa."

Ivaline Nickie, a woman of unwavering spirit, embarked on a noble mission a decade ago. She founded the Annie Dawson Children's Home, a sanctuary for girls who had suffered abuse, abandonment, or neglect. Our organization, Jamaica Volunteer Programs, recognized the power of her vision and formed a partnership to provide essential resources. Together, we celebrated her 10-year anniversary, surrounded by speeches that revealed the deep love and admiration everyone felt for her. Join us in honoring this remarkable woman who continues to inspire hope.

There's more to volunteering than meets the eye. Step into Jeanette's shoes as she and her children embark on a transformative journey in Jamaica. On her son Jameson's birthday, they visited a Kindergarten school, and what awaited them was sheer magic.

As the students serenaded him with a heartfelt rendition of "Happy Birthday," Jameson's face lit up with indescribable joy. Beyond the act of giving, studying abroad, and engaging in service learning, Jamaica offers intangible treasures like love, appreciation, and boundless happiness.

As a program provider, I enjoy spending time outdoors, particularly in the mornings when I can go for long walks and hikes. I frequently extend invitations to travelers, students, and volunteers visiting Jamaica to join me on these hikes.

Walking provides an intimate view of the villages and communities we pass through, and it's essential to bring a camera or phone along to capture those hard-to-get shots. Along the way, we often encounter farmers on their way to their fields, and we stop to chat with them and learn about their lives and struggles. We also take the time to observe the locals as they collect water from community pipes, offering a unique opportunity for travelers to learn about Jamaica's cultural traditions.

I find these experiences to be the most fun and exciting moments, as they allow me to connect with travelers on a deeper level and establish lasting friendships. Join me on my next adventure in Jamaica, and let's explore the beauty and culture of this amazing country together.

Today is our Founder's Wedding Anniversary, this is what she had to say:

"My husband and I are celebrating our 41st anniversary today and I want to use this milestone to connect with others. We both do International Educational Programs and believe in the power of travel to expand one’s worldview. That’s why we’re offering travel programs for community service and leadership development."

Last weekend our volunteers went on an exciting adventure! They journeyed to Ochi Rios, a popular city in Jamaica where they got up close and personal with horses on the beach. After that, it was time for ice cream then swimming and enjoying fish and bammy at the beach all day long--what could be better?!

While many people think of our world-famous Jerk chicken when they hear "Jamaica," there are so many other foods that make our country great.

Rice and peas - a favorite staple in most Jamaican homes on a Sunday
