Malika loves sharing the many benefits of yoga. Malika began practicing yoga in 2004 while living in San Francisco, California. During the first years of her yoga practice, she studied under excellent teachers from various traditions. The sty

les of yoga include but are not limited to Anusara, Forest Yoga, Raja and integral yoga, ashtanga and vinyasa yoga. These diverse yoga influences mirror her life experience of having lived in different countries around the world. The result is a colorful fusion of yoga styles that can be experienced in her classes. In 2008, she earned a yoga teacher certificate through Niroga Institute. Malika later blessed to train with the highly respected and experienced Katchie Ananda. She is eternally grateful to all her teachers and to the practice itself for bringing her home time after time. As a lifelong dancer and teacher, yoga has been an enhancing compliment to her classes and to her life in general. Yoga has been an instrumental tool in her growth as a person and has been a guide on her journey towards healthy lifestyle education. She truly enjoys sharing the benefits and tools that yoga provides with people who are open to this transformative practice.

Japanese schools seem to be truly taking an integrative approach to learning, mealtimes and teaching kids about health and well being. What a great way for the younger generations to develop this important life skill of preparing healthy meals and sharing in community. It's all about staying connected to the food we eat. Not hitting up the beach tomorrow-it's all about the Kingston Yoga Fest! It's the first ever and it's gonna be a fun one! I'll be teaching a Pranayama and Wellness Flow yoga class at 9-10:15 am. Then i plan to check a dance fusion class afterwards. Or maybe Tai Chi... Something for everyone-even the kids! Dance performances and mindfulness workshops all included in the day pass ($1500). It's International Day of Yoga! I love that there is a day for the world celebrate this powerful practice that reminds me to be flexible and to cultivate peace. Sharing yoga on this beautiful island has brought many lessons and blessings. I give thanks for the opportunity to be intentional about wellness and to understand the connection in all things. The sea and earth, the moon and the sun, darkness and light, movement and stillness, joy and pain, all the colors that my eye can see. I see the oneness of it all in this ever changing dance of divine play.

I got to discuss a bit with my favorite Jamaica Gleaner journalist about yoga and pregnancy, postpartum blues/depression and joys. Here's what she shared from the chat. Serious stuff, happy stuff, and all the challenging emotions also are involved in this creating of a new family. I feel it's important to shed light on the complexities of this stage in some women's lives. Being healthy means we can feel and fully express the range of what it is we are experiencing emotionally. That's when the support needed can be sought out and effectively offered. I for sure can relate to what is discussed here. Happy Mother's Day when it comes!

This will be my first time teaching since welcoming my little one and my first offering of 2017! Bring a yoga mat, a smile, a friend and your mother to kick off the celebrations.
