Hospiten Montego Bay recently launched the opening of the first Cardiac Catheterization Lab in the western region of Jamaica, marking a major milestone in advanced cardiac care.

This state-of-the-art facility enhances emergency care, offers minimally invasive procedures, and supports economic growth through medical tourism. Patients in the region can now access critical procedures such as angiography, angioplasty, and stent placement, among other life-saving services.

The launch event was attended by government tourism officials, highlighting the significance of this medical advancement in strengthening Jamaica’s healthcare sector and attracting international patients.

Hospiten Montego Bay is an Allied Member of the JHTA Montego Bay Chapter.

Day one of the Global Tourism Resilience Conference 2025 kicked off today with local, regional and international tourism stakeholders and officials in attendance.

The event which is being held under the theme, "Digital Transformation for Building Overall Tourism Resilience," created an opportunity for stakeholders to engage in discussions that focused on how technology is shaping the future of travel, strengthening crisis management and how to drive industry growth.

The conference is being held at Princess Resorts from February 17-19, 2025.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA! "An Evening in Old Havana"

Dressed in vintage-inspired elegance, members of the JHTA Montego Bay Chapter attended the recently held Hanover Charities Sugar Cane Ball at the luxurious Round Hill Hotel and Villas. Guests embraced the theme, "An Evening in Old Hanover," as they dazzled in classic white linen attire, flowing gowns, and dapper fedoras, evoking the charm of a bygone era.

The annual dinner, a highlight of the tourism social calendar in Montego Bay, brought together hospitality leaders in support of charitable initiatives across Hanover.

RIU Resorts in Jamaica has reported that sales to some of their seven properties in the island have significantly increased since the LATAM Airlines resumed flights between Lima, Peru and Montego Bay, Jamaica in December.

RIU Jamaica is a member of the JHTA and has three resorts located in Montego Bay and one in Trelawny.

TOURISM, AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABILITY.

Half Moon Resort recently hosted over 90 students and teachers on an insightful tour of their vast farm to table project which has contributed to their cost efficiency and sustainability of food supply.

State Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Franklin Witter, was also on sight to check out the lush produce available at the resort.

The Half Moon Resort is a member of the JHTA Montego Bay Chapter and has been recognized locally and international for initiating innovative sustainable tourism projects and has received several accolades for their environmental stewardship.

Kerry Ann Quallo Casserly, Area Chairperson for JHTA Montego Bay Chapter, recently attended the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry Workforce Development and Tourism Linkage field day project.

The project which is in its 3rd consecutive year, has partnered with Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), The Alex platform(online app for registering farmers, which gives them access to the industry), with an aim to link students in agriculture across western Jamaica to the tourism industry. Participating schools included: Spot Valley High, Montego Bay Community College, Lethe Christian School for the Deaf and Knockalva Politechnic College.

As a specially invited guest presenter, Casserly commended the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce for initiating the project which continues to impact our youths. She also highlighted the importance of collaboration among key stakeholders and the long term sustainable gains the project will have on the tourism and agriculture industry.

SAFETY IS KEY!

The Montego Bay Resort Area team is now equipped with four E-bikes which will be used in curtailing the issues of harassment in the city and to reassure the business community, citizens and visitors that their safety remains a priority.

The JHTA Montego Bay Chapter welcomes the initiative as it will significantly improve visibility, accessibility, and community engagement while enhancing the presence of the police in key tourist areas such as the Jimmy Cliff Blvd and in and around the Whitter Village area.

Meet Kerry Ann Quallo Casserly, Regional Commercial Director for Blue Diamond Resorts.

Kerry Ann is an accomplished leader and tourism executive that has made significant strides in enhancing the presence of the Royalton brand in Jamaica's competitive tourism sector.

Her journey began three decades ago as an entertainment coordinator. This entry-level position served as a springboard for her career, allowing her to cultivate a deep understanding of the intricacies of guest engagement and satisfaction.

Despite facing challenges along the way, Kerry credits her mentors and continous professional development through education as a vital component to her success. Her hard work and dedication have also propelled her through the ranks to becoming the Regional Commercial Director.

In addition to her role at Blue Diamond Resorts, Kerry proudly serves as the JHTA Area Chair for the Montego Bay Chapter and was recently recognized by the Mayor of Montego Bay where she received the Sam Sharpe award for her outstanding service in the field of tourism.

As we reflect on the past year, the JHTA Montego Bay Chapter is inspired by the collective achievements and the unwavering commitment of our members to elevate the tourism sector in Montego Bay and by extension, Destination Jamaica.

As we celebrate the start of a new year, we reaffirm our commitment to our mission: to position Montego Bay and Jamaica as the Caribbean's Leading Destination. We will continue to support initiatives that focus on community and environmental outreach so as to ensure our beautiful city thrives alongside our tourism industry.

Our continued efforts to engage, develop and support our tourism workforce is paramount, as their passion and dedication are the backbone of our success.

On December 18th, members of the JHTA Montego Bay Chapter came out in their numbers to bring the spirit of joy and love to the children at the SOS Village, located in Barrett Town, Montego Bay.

The annual outreach activity was a festive occasion filled with laughter and fun as the children enjoyed an array of food and treats which were provided by various members of the association. This represents the association's unwavering commitment to supporting organizations that are making a meaningful impact in the community and the lives of people.

The JHTA Montego Bay Chapter has been a sponsor of the non-governmental institution for several years.
