There is this sweet place in the world that we adore.
I know my business is Jamaican-based, but my husband and I have been traveling to this beautiful area called Treasure Beach for over twenty years. Treasure Beach, Jamaica, has had an incredible impact on our lives. Some of the kindest people we have met live there and are considered friends. It is a small fishing and farming village on the South Coast of Jamaica.
As many of you may know, Hurricane Beryl hit Jamaica as a category 4 hurricane this past Wednesday, July 3rd. The eye of Beryl buzzsawed over the south coast of Jamaica. Specifically, Treasure Beach took a direct hit, leaving most of the community devastated. The impact of this disaster is profound and cannot be overstated.
Our Jamaican friends and family are some of the most warm-hearted and resilient people on earth. We have been in contact with many who have confirmed their safety. Despite the devastation, thankfully, there were no fatalities, but the community's livelihood - - homes, businesses, churches, and schools sustained tremendous damage. Cleanup and rebuilding have already begun, but there is a lot of work ahead, especially since there is currently still No Power. The destruction of the powerlines was severe, and it will take numerous weeks for Treasure Beach to have power restored.
We are contacting our past Treasure Beach guests to see if they would like to donate directly to specific property staff and drivers with whom they had connections with over the years in this moment of need.
If someone who reads this is inclined to give to this amazing community, we will ensure it reaches those in need directly. Please PM me or send an email to [email protected].
No amount is too small, and any support and kindness one can offer will be appreciated. We are also thankful for your thoughts, prayers, and support for our beautiful Jamaican communities during this time.
