Right To Play Jordan was established in 2006, targeting children and youth in the most vulnerable areas of Jordan. Its aim was to enhance the equality of education within the Jordanian formal education frameworks. In addition to using sports for comprehensive child and youth development including psychosocial support, life skills and community cohesion. In subsequent years Right To Play Jordan wid
ened its scope beyond its main office in Amman and established offices in the governorates of Irbid, Mafraq, Zarqa and Aqaba. Right To Play Jordan trains teachers to act as leaders who deliver our interactive play-based methods that centre the educational experience around the child. The results of these methods can be observed on multiple levels within the schooling system. The levels of effective communication between students and their teachers have increased, in turn there has been a notable improvement in the academic results thanks to programmes initiated by Right To Play. With play as an incentive, attendance rates are improving and children are more actively engaged in their lessons, which leads to better learning. Play is also a chance for students to engage with each other, improving their communication and decision-making skills, encouraging teamwork and cooperation, and building their confidence and leadership qualities. The strengthening of these key aspects of schooling have combined to create a positive image of education in the minds of the children involved. Overall, we have observed a significant improvement in the quality of education being offered in the Jordanian schools with whom we work, thanks to these initiatives. The other dimension of Right To Play’s work in Jordan focuses upon community-based initiatives. learning and play-space rehabilitation where we aim to repair and rehabilitate the physical learning environment of children, fixing run down playgrounds and classrooms, amongst other projects. Through this we have provided space for children to play, especially girls - which did not exist before.
