The city of Salt is located in the Balqa Governorate, about (29.8) km northwest of the capital Amman. It is a city with an ancient history, the goodness of its people and its soil. Salt means a wooded valley or a dense forest. Salt is an unparalleled witness to the architectural heritage. The city has more than seven hundred heritage buildings, some of which are four hundred years old, while others are between one hundred and two hundred years old. Some of them are distinguished by their commercial building style, as Salt was known as a commercial center for merchants from the Levant. The first municipal council was established in 1887 AD.

In the ancient Salt, located 29 km from Amman, there is a restored and consecrated church of St. George the Victorious, built, according to legend, in the XVII century above the cave. Saint George appeared to the traveler who spent the night in it and ordered the construction of a temple here.

It is not easy to find a church, there are no signs, domes and other distinctive architectural elements visible from afar. Only the cross on the roof indicates where to go down to get to the temple. The walls of the cave, where you can pray and leave a note with a request to the Lord, are soaked in fragrant oil, footprints and hands of the saint are preserved under the glass, melting the rock, and facial features are discernible on the altar stone.

George the Victorious, a native of Palestine, is very revered in Jordan, including Muslims who also enter the temple.
