ظهر الطائر الوردي لأول مرة في مدينة البتراالوردية.
تحاكي ألوان الطائر الوردي ألوان البترا الجذابة، حيث أنه يمثل جمال طبيعتها الخلابة وسحرها،
وتعتبر جبال البترامن أفضل المناطق لمشاهدة هذا الطائر، وتم اختياره كطائر وطني للمملكة بسبب لونه الوردي الذي يشبه لون البترا، والتي تعد جبالها مأوى مناسب جدا لهذه العصافير وذلك بسبب تمويهها المحكم هناك إذ توفر لها الصخور الوردية مأوى متميز.
