#おんばしら involves thousands of local people pulling 16 km by handmade wisteria vines 200+ year old trees from the foot of every 7 years to be raised at the four corners of 4 main . As many young men as possible cling to the log while chanting and waving fronds. Unfortunately many fall off which makes this one of the most dangerous festivals in the world. The festival lasts 6 days over one month and involves music, dancing, sake drinking and Shinto blessings along the way. If not for Corona virus restrictions anyone could join in pulling the 16 logs for 4 shrines and enjoy the festivities. #茅野市 #諏訪市 #長野

If you are looking at coming to Japan next year to do your 'shumistay', then autumn (September to November) is a wonderful time to visit. The heat and humidity of summer give way to comfortable and sunny days. The highlight of this season are the beautiful colours of the turning leaves. The bright reds of the Japanese maples and the golden yellows of the gingko trees are something to behold.

Shumi Stay Japan – taking your hobby on holiday to Japan

Shumi Stay Japan is about providing any kind of hobby group with a leisurely program where they can stay in Japan to pursue their hobby and do it together with Japanese who share the same passion, that is, their “shumi”.

Shumi Stay Japan was conceived by Phil and Kazuko Ingram, who have over 60 years of combined living and working experience in Japan between them and saw a gap in the market for Australians who want to have a leisurely stay in Japan and meet the local people. They hit on the idea that hobbies are a good way to bring people together – and Japanese people love their shumi.
