The main function of Tokyo Skytree is to serve as a broadcasting tower for TV and radio signals. Back when Tokyo Tower, which is 1,092 feet tall, was built, there were no high-rises in Tokyo. But as more and more tall buildings appeared in central Tokyo, a taller tower was needed to transmit TV and radio signals, especially when Japan’s TV broadcasting system shifted from analog to digital. Now, with a height of 2,080 feet, it’s truly a massive tower!

We will soon introduce a Tokyo private tour featuring the third tallest structure in the world—Tokyo Skytree, which was built in 2012. (For reference, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai stands at 2,717 feet as the tallest, followed by Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur at 2,227 feet.) The view from the 350-meter observation deck is simply breathtaking. From there, you can truly appreciate the immense scale of Tokyo. (technically, is not a city but a metropolitan prefecture.)

Riding a short sightseeing cruise can be an ideal experience in Tokyo. In particular, the 20-minute ride from Hinode Pier to Odaiba Island is a pleasant journey aboard a futuristic boat designed by a famous Japanese manga artist. The cruise also passes under the beautiful white suspension bridge known as the Rainbow Bridge. Reservations can easily be made through their website.

I took a private afternoon tour with two lovely ladies from Mexico. Since their hotel was on Odaiba Island, I had the chance to ride the Yurikamome Line from Shinbashi Station. It was my first time taking this train at night, and the views of the Tokyo Bay area were absolutely stunning.

During rush hour, the Tokaido Shinkansen, the bullet train line connecting Tokyo with Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Hakata, departs from Tokyo Station 13 times per hour. This means there is more than one train every five minutes. It’s almost like a commuter train, but keep in mind that the bullet train’s maximum speed is nearly three times faster than that of commuter trains. It’s truly amazing how they manage the timetable and operations so efficiently. 👏

A construction site in my neighborhood has a digital display board showing the exact levels of noise and vibration generated at the site. In Tokyo, construction site noise must not exceed 80 decibels, and vibration levels must remain under 70 decibels. While it is not mandatory to display such signage, major construction companies now voluntarily install these boards to demonstrate their commitment to safety and to show that the work is being conducted within regulatory limits.

Climbing Mt. Fuji was historically a pilgrimage, a journey to a sacred place. It became very popular among commoners in the late Samurai Era but was quite challenging due to the high cost. To make it more accessible, many miniature versions of Mt. Fuji were built throughout Japan, allowing worshippers to climb them instead of the real mountain. One example is “Otowa Fuji,” located on the grounds of Gokokuji Temple in Tokyo. This “quite high” miniature Mt. Fuji was constructed using real lava stones from the actual mountain and even has a shrine at its summit. It is said that climbing it provides the same spiritual benefits as climbing the real Mt. Fuji. 🗻

The artwork The Planets by TeamLab is titled “Floating in the Falling Universe of Flowers.” The description reads: “A seasonal year of flowers blooms and changes with time, as life spreads out into the universe.”
As you lie down in the middle of the room, you feel as though your body is floating in the air. You become part of the flowers and leaves that are scattered and falling around you. I felt a bit of motion sickness in this room, but it was an amazing experience.

A small temple bell hanging under the eave of Zenkoji Temple was rung when the clock struck four o’clock. Similar to Christian cathedrals in the West, temple bells in Japan also served as clocks to let people know the time in the past.

A few minutes before arriving at Moto-Hakone Port on the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise (Pirate Boat Cruise), you have the perfect opportunity to capture a photo of the iconic red Torii gate and Mt. Fuji together. From this angle, you may notice a large crater on the left side of the mountain. It was formed during the last eruption, which occurred in 1707. Surprisingly, Mt. Fuji is not a dormant volcano—it is still classified as an active volcano.

I took the Snow Monkey Tour yesterday again. I love watching this lady (I’m starting to recognize their faces and personalities at the park) relaxing in the hot bath while her child was grooming her. As I kept looking at her face, it started to resemble a human face more and more. It was a very strange feeling.

I took my kids to TeamLab Planets for the first time, and they absolutely loved it! Here are a few tips if you’re planning to visit TeamLab Planets with young children:
In the “Water” area, there’s a pond with a depth of about 30 cm. It’s a good idea to bring shorts for your kids and have them change before entering this zone.
You don’t need to bring towels—they provide them for you.
Kids often try to grab the koi fish in the water, so their shirts might get wet. Bringing extra shirts is highly recommended.
There are no restaurants, cafes, or convenience stores near Shin-Toyosu Station, which is right in front of the Planets. Be sure to eat beforehand, as you won’t find food options nearby.
Hope this helps you prepare for a fun visit!
