Visiting the disaster are of Fukushima is truly an eye-opening, surreal experience. On this tour you'll be able to visit a middle school that is still standing after suffering massive damage from the tsunami and earthquake. The wreckage serves as a symbol to persevere and push through tragedy. There are still rooms that stayed above the water level where messages on the chalkboards remain, showing just how sudden the event happened.

Yes, there is still radioactivity in Fukushima, but its at levels even lower than one might typically be exposed to on an average airplane ride. The no-entry zone only makes up about 3% of the prefecture, and technically most of it still remains safe (as in, less radiation than an airplane ride). So, don't let you stop you from visiting or learning more about this important point of history!

Today we remember the disaster that struck Fukushima 13 years ago. While the tsunami itself was devastating, the aftermath of the nuclear disaster has very long lasting effects. the towns affected still have a long road ahead of them, but are persevering. The area has become a symbol of resilience and reformation in many ways, as well as a beacon of hope.

While much progress has been made, there are many lessons to be learned from the event, both by individuals, corporations, and governments alike. Reflecting on what happened holistically and visiting the exclusion zone is truly eye opening and a wealth of worldly knowledge.

Fukushima, especially Namie town, has become a location of advocacy. when walking around this area, you can really see the impact of the disaster and many works of art to promote various things, especially the notion that Japan is a strong nation that gets back up after falling down. this is strongly conveyed by the various "daruma" (an object that returns to an upright position after being knocked over, the mural in the left of the photo) pieces that can be seen throughout the town.

you'll be able to see many of other works of advocacy art and lasting effects from the disaster on the tours.

Take a look at the strength of the Tsunami🌊❗️
The pressure exerted by a tsunami is immense, especially when it crashes onto coastal areas. The combination of water volume and velocity creates a powerful force that can crush and deform objects in its path, including cars🚗

At our Fukushima Tour I recorded my Geiger Counter (used for detecting/measuring radiation) ☢️ 📐
As we drove past the Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant the Geiger counter suddenly kicked🫢

But rest assured that is nothing to be afraid of🤭
Some comparisons:
-Normal Radiation Exposure on the tour: ~0.2mS
-During a flight with an airplane: ~0.1-0.3mSV
-CT Scan: ~10.0mSV
