Soyokaze Sailing

Soyokaze Sailing The journey of Soyokaze from Dubrovnik, Croatia to Okinawa, Japan and the joys of owning a sailing vessel Once again Captain Byron Price will be commanding.

Chapter 1 Saving Soyokaze

Soyokaze was abandon by her first delivery captain not even one quarter way through the journey (unfortunately paid half up front plus expense money) After my initial over-reaction to fly to Egypt and sail off into the Mediterranean where she just came from, I was able to get some sound advice and explore my options. With the help of Captain Byron Price, I was able to ex

it Egypt and sail up the Gulf of Aqaba to Jordan. In Jordan Soyokaze was prepared for land transportation across Saudi Arabia. Chapter 2 will pick up in Jebel Ali where she will have her mast re-stepped and floated to a nearby marina. She will be outfitted and then head to Lang Kawi via the Indian Ocean.

New Bimini is installed.

The old Bimini could have been repaired another time, and the new one was just enough over budget to be uncomfortable, but decided for longevity vs smaller price.

After being hoisted up the mast, I noticed a disturbed area in my main halyard. 😳

Further inspection warranted a new halyard.

Thankfully it was used as the safety line during this evolution.

After a few days of searching the limited resources available, I was able to find a replacement. 🏦

I pulled the center out and sewed the two outer covers together, wrapped with tape and went up and over the top mast pulley, then down through the mast while holding my breath.

Mission accomplished!
