Today we visited the compass stone at Mount Hiyori in Hamada. The stone was laid in 1834 to help sailors determine wind direction 💨 Easy walk with great sea views.

Chinowa kuguri is a ritual that takes place at Shinto shrines on June 30th every year. You should pass through the grass hoop in a figure of 8, going through and turning to the left, then going back through from the front and turning to the right, and finally going through the hoop a third time and turning left. This is done to remove any impurities from the first half of the year and pray for good health in the second half of the year. The picture was taken this evening at Hamada’s Izumo Taisha Bunji (出雲大社石見分祠)

Sanko Line connecting Gotsu and Miyoshi. If you take the first train from Gotsu, the early morning light is beautiful. Or you can take the later train around lunch time, jump off at Iwami Kawamoto and catch the return train 15 minutes later. It's also possible to use Geibi Line from Miyoshi to reach Kisuki, then Shinji and get back on to the San'in main line. There are lots of different ways to do a day-trip, or stay over in Iwami and enjoy the beautiful beaches and Kagura. The best scenery is nearer Gotsu where the river is widest, rather than the Miyoshi side. Last chance! #iwami #gotsu #shimane #train
