Today is the Ibara Manten Festival! ✨️
From 4pm at Ibara Train station, you can enjoy a range of food and market stalls, a Bon Odori (dance festival) and in the evening, end your night with fireworks! (from 8pm)
So come on down and experience the festival!

On Saturday 20th July 2024, transport your kids to a land of only English for the day!

With games run by foreign English language teachers, this is a chance to hear and experience real English for a day!

Lunch is also included in the day, with a selection of delicious foods from various countries.

So come and spend the day in Englishland!

Date and Time: Saturday 20th July 2024 10:00-15:00
Location: Oe Community Centre
Aimed at: Elementary School Children from years 4-6.
Maximum participants: 20 students (as of 5th July, only 8 spaces left)

Did you know that Ibara City is home to one of only 2 remaining traditional Japanese lantern-makers in Okayama Prefecture? 🏮 The owner is in his 80s and has been making japanese lanterns and traditional japanese umbrellas by hand for over 50 years! 🤯

Everything from cutting down the bamboo in the forest, to thinly slicing it into strips, to applying the Japanese paper and even hand-writing the characters is done by him 😯

So if you want to buy something that is truly authentic Japanese, definitely have a look at his shop!

Last Sunday, we are pleased to say that our Taiwan Charity Bake went off without a hitch! With about 25 attendees, the class, led by resident Taiwanese teacher Teikun-san made some absolutely delicious Taiwanese Macarons! 🤤 After the baking was over, everyone sat down to enjoy their creations with authentic Taiwanese tea ☕️

We are ecstatic to say that the event made over 37,000 yen which has been donated to charity for the victims of the earthquake in Taiwan in April.

Thank you to everyone who joined or donated! 🙇🏾‍♀️

Taiwanese Macarons: Earthquake Relief Charity Bake Event

On April 3rd, Taiwan was hit with a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that left 18 people dead and over 1000 misplaced.

Here in Ibara, we want to contribute to the rebuilding effort. Under the tutelage of our resident Taiwanese Chef, Teikun-sensei, you will learn how to make these absolutely delicious Taiwanese-style Macarons.

In comparison to traditional macarons, these bite-sized morsels of pleasure have more of a cake-like sponge texture.
They taste amazing with the traditional Taiwanese tea we will also provide, so that you can have an authentic Taiwanese afternoon tea after you are finished baking them.

The event will be held on Sun 12th May from 13:00-15:00 at Yoshii Community Centre, Ibara City, Okayama.

Even if you can't join the cooking class, there will be a donations box so feel free to drop by to donate.
