Nyoninmichi was a path for women to worship at Koyasan(Mt. Koya) until the ban on women visiting Koyasan was lifted in 1872. Koyasan is like a basin and Nyonimich is a mountain ridge road of the surrounding mountains. Aside from such a history, the trail itself is very beautiful.
節分の夜、東大寺二月堂本堂で星供養。星に魔除けや幸福を祈る儀式。夜空の星に祈るわけではなく、今年も曇り空で星は見えていませんでした。春日大社の万燈籠も行われていました。
Hoshi-Kuyō, (star offering) is to pray to the stars to repel evil and bring happiness. It was held at the Nigatsudo Temple on the night of the Setsubun although there were no stars on a cloudy night this year as well. At the Kasuga Ground Shrine, all 3,000 lanterns around the shrine are lit that night.

Although I saw a lot of cherry blossoms while guiding this year, this is the only photo I took. It's my beloved Kishiwada Castle near the high school where I graduated.

Himeji Castle is famous for its nickname, Shirasagi-jo (White Egret Castle), and the renovations completed in 2015 made it even whiter due to its white plaster. As well as being beautiful, it was also a fortress, not a residence, with excellent facilities and equipment for defence.
Many cherry trees have been skilfully planted throughout the castle, and they are the most beautiful when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. But this time of year, in winter, it was quiet and relaxing to take photos.

In Kyoto, several places famous for their autumn foliage are lit up during the autumn foliage season. This Kiyomizu-temple is particularly renowned for it, but there are some tips to enjoy.
Autumn Leaves in Kyoto!
As I am not too fond of the beaten track, I searched for a silent place to enjoy autumn leaves. Away from the crowds, luckily I found such secret sites, even in Kyoto. But, after all, I also felt I had to add a visit to busy scenic beauties, Tofukuji, Eikando, Shinnyodo, etc. It was worth it! I became an autumn expert autumn leaves watcher. As it is not mainly for tourism, I didn't have to pay an entrance fee. But the moment I entered the precinct, I held my breath. It was stunning; the words "hidden gem" came to my mind. It was rainy, which added a different aesthetic.
The dog who is a substitute for its master
During the Edo period, it was not easy for people to take vacations and travel casually. But only “okage-mairi” the once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage to the Ise Grand Shrine, was generously allowed.
Although it gradually became a big boom, some people were still too busy to visit Ise. In such cases, people would send their dogs to visit Ise in their place. This was called "Okage-inu.” And now, I found a funny parody of Okage-inu service, and my pomeranian dog tried this.

Although the season for autumn leaves is a little ahead, the sunset light made Kinkakuji beautiful. 紅葉にはまだちょっと早いですが、夕日をあびた金閣寺はきれいでした。10月22日。

Kumano is really off the beaten track, and you will feel it's worlds away. You can appreciate it even on such a rainy day.
Covid-19 made Kyoto calm. Although cherry blossom was in full bloom and the weather was so lovely. We will never experience such a fantastic opportunity again.
