奈良県宇陀市にある仏隆寺の階段。秋分の日の一週間ごろに咲く曼珠沙華が美しい。今年は暑さのせいか、少し遅れて咲きました。
Stairs to Butsuryuji Temple in Uda, Nara. The manjushage flowers that bloom during the week of the autumnal equinox day are beautiful.　This year, they bloomed a little late, perhaps because of the heat.

梅雨の季節、高野山の女人道を歩きました。歴史はさておき、とても美しい道です。
Nyoninmichi was a path for women to worship at Koyasan(Mt. Koya) until the ban on women visiting Koyasan was lifted in 1872. Koyasan is like a basin and Nyonimich is a mountain ridge road of the surrounding mountains. Aside from such a history, the trail itself is very beautiful.

節分の夜、東大寺二月堂本堂で星供養。星に魔除けや幸福を祈る儀式。夜空の星に祈るわけではなく、今年も曇り空で星は見えていませんでした。春日大社の万燈籠も行われていました。
Hoshi-Kuyō, (star offering) is to pray to the stars to repel evil and bring happiness. It was held at the Nigatsudo Temple on the night of the Setsubun although there were no stars on a cloudy night this year as well. At the Kasuga Ground Shrine, all 3,000 lanterns around the shrine are lit that night.

京都の郊外大原にはまさに隠れた秘宝のようなお寺があります。これは樹齢700年の松がある宝泉院です。
There is a truly hidden treasure of a temple in the Kyoto suburb of Ohara. This is Hosenin, with its 700-year-old pine tree.

今年、紅葉季節のガイドの仕事で一番良かったのは奈良の依水園でした。1200円はちょっと高いですが、私のJAF会員カードでお客様の分が200円引きでした。

重森千青さんの講演に触発され、小雨の降る中、桂離宮を訪れました。紅葉はほとんど終わっていましたが、これぞ究極の日本庭園だと確信しました。
Inspired by Chisao Shigemori's lecture, I visited Katsura Rikyu in light rain. Although autumn leaves had almost passed, I was convinced that this was indeed the ultimate Japanese garden.

京都は紅葉はまだなのに有名な場所は超混雑。そこで一昨日はお客様をとある隠れた秘宝にお連れしました。これはその昨年11月の写真です。
The day before yesterday I escorted my guests to my favorite temple. Many popular sites are already very busy although autumn leaves are not yet. So I chose one hidden gem. This is a photo of it last year in November.

We enjoyed a boat ride with Chandee in Osaka. He visited my class for a while about ten years ago. Amazingly, he keeps in touch with his classmates. He has been travelling around in Japan and will depart for California tomorrow.
昨日、チャンディーと大阪で船に乗って遊びました。彼は10年度ほど前、私のクラスにやってきてしばらく滞在しました。何と、今もその時の友人たちと連絡を取り合っています。彼は明日、カリフォルニアへ出発します。
