Want to take a walk to the past? 🌳
Located in the former Kajiki Town, Tatsumonji Zaka is a historic stone-paved slope whose construction began in 1635 and took over 100 years to complete.
Originally over 1,500 meters long, 486.8 meters of the road remain in its original form today. Tatsumonji Zaka played a crucial role in the economy and culture of Satsuma as a major traffic route. During the Seinan War of 1877, the Satsuma Army, led by Takamori Saigo, used this road to head to Kumamoto.
In 1996, it was selected as one of the 100 best historical roads by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Additionally, it is renowned as a filming location for historical dramas!
