The Ryugatake mountain campsite has a new management, and Gogo Daichi and Akinori Miura are doing an incredible job to make it more comfortable.
Besides the amazing view and the perfect location - there's an observatory junt 5 minutes walk away - the place provides everything you need for a perfect camping, tent and bungalows.
Everything is ready. The most clear night sky of Japan is waiting for you.

Christina came to try the Kamiamakusa Real Experience.

It was a 3 days of immersion in nature, sea, good food and relaxing time.

We started visiting Matsushima island where we eat tasty homemade sweets, and then we moved with Zozogama where she could enjoy the sunset on the islands and Konomi homemade coffee.

Next day we went to fish, and it was her first experience fishing on a boat. Not bad: she took 7 fishes, a good start!

Then we went to Calm Beach, and even if the weather was not so warm she could swim in the transparent and clean water.

Hiking, cooking, and sightseeing was also a big part of the experience.

Minami Yokomizo is helping Ayumu-san with the new rice plants.

Umisora is a very special restaurant.
Hiroshi and Chiaki, a very kind and warm japanese couple, lived in Canada and Italy developing a true dedication into fusion cuisine.

They create their own menu mixing italian and homemade products with japanese food and local ingredients straight from Kamiamakusa farms.

Hiroshi-san explains every dish while serving: ingredients, characteristic and a bit of history and tradition / transforming every dinner into an experience.

Shoji-san is one of a kind. He is my manager in Kamiamakusa, and his work into the Tourism Department is remarkable. He's always open to new ideas and he is a strong support in everything related to people working for this beautiful islands.

His vision and skills are what Kamiamakusa needs.

On top of that he is an avid biker. And a bass player. And, last but not least, a very skilled fisherman, and also a father of two wonderful kids.

Ryosuke Konomi, also known as Coffee Sensei, is the true soul of Iwajima. He is the guardian of the sea and the land.

Talented pottery artist and teacher (Toge sensei), fisherman (Tsuri sensei), Master of BBQ (Fire sensei), he runs Zozogama, a mix of pottery laboratory - cafe - relaxing space - cinema. And since he is a fine coffee connoisseur, believe me when I say that his coffee is really good.

He knows everyone and everyone loves him.

And I love him too.

One of the most beautiful things you can do here is having a night walk. I took the habit of long night walks here in Kamiamakusa.

When I cannot sleep, I usually take a walk. Sometimes with my camera, sometimes not. I can walk for hours, always finding something new to see.

And why shouldn't I? The stars, the nature, the smells. The sound of the sea that you can hear anywhere.

Everything is different here.

So guys, this is not a joke. Luckily Kamiamakusa has not evacuation alert, but many areas between Amakusa, Kumamoto and Nagasaki are evacuated.
This is one of the strongest typhoon ever to hit Japan, and its strongest power is here in Kyushu.

And yes, Jetstar canceled my flight 2 times so I'm here in Iwajima.

Brace yourself.

The warning, only issued for the most extreme storms, means that forecasters predict a large-scale disaster that is only seen once every few decades.

We like fish so we take sea health very serious.
So, today me and Konomi went for some sea cleaning after tonight high tide, and removed some trash and wood.

It's important to love the sea.

I consider Ryosuke Konomi the soul of Iwajima island.
And beyond that, he is a great pottery artist and he does pottery workshops in his cafe / laboratory.

One of the most interesting projects in Kamiamakusa is the renovation and requalification of old houses for community purposes.

This gives to the community new spaces for events and workshops, and also contributes to the creation of a village shared accomodation space for tourists - called Albergo Diffuso.

Orangette Hashimoto is a wonderful project that mixes the natural flavor of the Kamiamakusa oranges with the mastery of handmade chocolat.

The beauty of oranges natural farms is that every orange has a slightly different taste, more or less sweet, giving to Hashimoto creations the life that factory products cannot have.

Trust me: it's absolutely delicious.

It's that season of the year when you should paddle your feet in our incredible water.

Martin and Emi came to Calm Beach to wade their feet and frolic in February and they enjoyed, so if you're not a creature of the north you should come right now.

In Hotaru Park (Park of the Fireflies) in this season it's easy to find a lot of fireflies, and when I say a lot I mean A LOT.

It's a really beautiful experience.

Situated between Himedo Park and Ryugatake mountain, Kojima Beach camping site is kinda unique.

It's a strip of sand that goes from the main island of Matsushima to the small Kojima island. It's a small but very comfortable campsite where you can have everything, from sand to rocks, and all the services that you need in a campsite.

I love it because it's one of the beaches where you can spot the bright green seaweed growing on the rocks that create that amazing contrast with the blue sky.

Also, with a park and a hiking path near, you can have so many natural alternatives to your camp stay.

Definitely recommended.
