Basically, a change in the way we thought about life in general was the catalyst. We spent more than a year trying to come up with different "business" ideas, but none of them really came to fruition. Then we decided to stop thinking about how to make money and start thinking about what really makes us happy and what we would do with our lives if money was not even a consideration. Once we took money out of the equation the answer became clear. Japan! Travel! Fun! A&C Tours Japan was born!
The first half of 2024 has been the busiest start to a year since we started A&C Tours Japan back in 2017. A big thanks to the 54 people who joined one of our 7 tours over the past 6 months. Looking forward to more fun and adventure in the second half of the year!

I think Shibu Onsen is probably my favorite hot spring town in Japan! Being here feels like you've traveled back in time.
Today we are in Nagano to see the snow monkeys (well at this time of the year I guess they are just monkeys...) and stay at a traditional ryokan. There might not have been any snow or bathing, but there were baby monkeys everywhere!!
IMHO Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa is one of the top 3 gardens in Japan. Nearby Kanazawa Castle is icing on the cake!
The UNESCO World Heritage listed villages of Shirakawago and Gokayama are fantastic any time of the year. Some of these buildings are 250 years old and today are some of the most photographed buildings in Japan.
If you want to enjoy amazing places like Takayama without the crowds (if you've ever been to Japan you know what I'm talking about...) an evening stroll is the best way to do it!
Osaka has a special place in my heart. Way back in 1993 I arrived at Osaka Airport as a 19 year old and lived in and around this bustling city for the next two years. Today we visited the heart of the city (Dotonbori) and the world's largest aquarium (the Osaka Kaiyukan).

The beauty of some places isn't affected by the weather. Majestic Himeji Castle and Kokoen Japanese Garden are definitely 2 such places!
Sometimes you've gotta look on the bright side! Today we couldn't ride the boats through spectacular Takachiho Gorge because the water level was too high, but that meant we were able to get these amazing photos of the gorge without dozens of boats in the water!
Our next stop was Mt A*o. This extremely active volcano erupted in 2016 and 2021 and a couple of weeks ago the danger level was raised to 2. This meant we couldn't get right to the crater today, but on the bright side we are all safe and sound!
Today we explored the "Hells of Beppu". These 7 bubbling hot springs are a nationally designated place of beauty and are must-see wherever you are in Beppu.
Even on a cold gloomy day Miyajima Island is amazing!
Hiroshima is one of my favoirite cities in Japan! The people are friendly, the food is delicious and the city is just beautiful.
The beauty of a fully escorted private tour is the flexibility to change things up. Today the ladies wanted to get dressed up in kimonos and become models, so that's what happened!

Before jumping on the shinkansen and traveling to Kyoto we visited a few of the best places in Hakone, including Owakudani (Hell Valley) Lake Ashi and Hakone Shrine. For the second day in a row we were able to see Mt Fuji in all her glory. B.E.A.utiful!
The weather forecast for the first day of our latest fully escorted private tour wasn't good, but the goddess of Mt Fuji was very kind to us!
We finished our largest ever fully escorted private tour (29 people) in bustling Osaka! We spent the morning at the largest aquarium in the world and then spent the afternoon exploring Namba and Shinsaibashi. A big thanks to the wonderful people who joined this tour. It was a pleasure!

Each trip to beautiful Miyajima Island is different. Today we had a low tide so we were able to walk out to the floating torii gate and see it close up!
It's always great to be back in beautiful Hiroshima!
Himeji Castle is one of Japan's 12 original castles, and IMHO it is the best! Nearby Kokoen Japanese Garden was the icing on the cake.
The ancient capital city of Nara is full of historic sites and today we visited 2 of the best! Kasuga Grand Shrine and Todaiji Temple were both built in the 8th century and both are a must whenever in Nara.
It's always great to be back in Kyoto!!
Today we visited a few of this amazing city's most iconic places, including Nijo Castle, Nishiki Market, Gion and Yasaka Shrine.
Today we traveled from Tokyo to Kyoto passing by Mt Fuji on the way. After arriving in Kyoto we visited the iconic bamboo grove and the World Heritage listed Tenryuji Temple in Arashiyama.
Today we experienced the old and the new of the world's largest metropolis Tokyo. The Tokyo Skytree was built in 2012 and Sensoji Temple was built in 628... Japan really is a land of contrasts!

The Bamboo Grove in Kyoto is world famous, but personally I love this hidden little gem in Higashi-Kurume (Tokyo). I've been here about a dozen times and I've never seen another person. Might have to add it to a tour itinerary or two! :)
