It was an incredible privilege and surprisingly moving to watch Noh performed as it was originally intended; outside, enhanced by the elements and seasons. The setting, a former noble’s home, made this even more special as the final dance told a tale set in the same location Huge thank you to my Kyoto fixers 🙏🏻

If you haven’t visited Japan in a while, it’s worth the return trip just to stay at the incredible . Opened just two years ago and designed by Pritzker laureate Shigeru Ban it features 10 unique villas, one of which is a replica of Ban’s own holiday home. Next door to also designed by Shigeru Ban and recently awarded“World’s Most Beautiful Museum” at the 2024 Prix Versailles awards, this place is a must for any art & architecture lovers

After well over 150 years framing the entrance to the Maeda family home in Aomori, the old gate could no longer stand against the winter snows. Come the spring we will see what can be saved and rebuilt 😢 🤞🏻

All I want for Christmas…. These incredible funedansu (ship chests) are works of art created by a number of different artisans and featuring hidden ninja drawers!!! Using designs dating back to the Edo period they are designed to be thrown overboard if a ship starts to sink in the hopes that the contents can be salvaged later.

It was a quick but fabulous trip to the sacred land of Wagyu to discover - Wagyu even better than A5 and in such limited supply it can barely be found outside this prefecture . Great to hang out with my old (not age!) friend too. Thanks for arranging 🙏🏻
