A yokai that all women, and maybe some men, can relate to: “born from women aspiring to cuteness and the pain from wearing high heels” 👠
Yokai (spirits, demons, imps, poltergeist…) were born out of the belief the ancient people of Japan held that spirits existed in all things. Even today they are a source of comfort, fear and entertain; very much still an integral part of Japanese culture. And who’s to say they don’t exist? They certainly do on Shodoshima
Sings of Spring in Tokyo

It’s a wintery day in rural Kyoto
It has been the most wonderful white Christmas, and Boxing Day, and day after Boxing Day….
When your VIP charter flight ends and the theme to ‘The Twilight Zone’ starts to play…
The feeling of bathing naked in the hot spring waters under the light of a full moon, gazing at this view ….
Dining .tokyo was so much more than a meal. It is an utterly incredible curated experience of flavours, textures, colours and smells. If I didn’t live here I would fly in just to eat!
Kyoto was looking spectacular this evening 🍁
Take the time to see this absolutely fabulous exhibition if you have a spare hour or two in Tokyo - his homage to artists is particularly wonderful to see
Thanks for dragging me along
Happy Halloween 🎃 👻
Poor Hachiko is hidden behind double sheeting and Shibuya is closed this Halloween 😞 No drinking, no smoking, and definitely no hooking up!
Once know as the ‘Venice of the East’ Tokyo still has enough waterways to make a boat trip a fun way to see a different side of the city. Especially when you can end at Nihonbashi, the official start point for the 5 major highways of Japan, as designated by the Edo shogunate
The geographical uniqueness of the Izu Peninsula makes it a fabulous place for amateur geologists and kids!

Rain or shine, Ginzan Onsen is always a magical place
Covering almost 8 acres, the Shin-en Gardens (“Garden of the gods”) at Heian Shrine in Kyoto are among the biggest in a city renowned for its gardens, yet most visitors are unaware they exist, overshadowed as they are by the main structures of the shrine.
It just became even harder to chose a hotel in Kyoto. The newly opened is a gorgeous option; combining the beauty and simplicity of Japanese design with the taste of Thailand
Even if you live in the city, you’re going to want to plan a staycation at Tokyo’s best hotel
The views over Yoyogi Park from the rooftop pool and bar are the perfect setting for relaxing in the sun or enjoying a glass or two with a friend. It’s hard to believe that you’re just minutes away from the insanity of Shibuya and Shinjuku
Less than 1hr from Kanazawa and 90 mins from Kyoto is the gorgeous, and empty Eiheiji temple, one of the two head temples of Soto Zen in Fukui. Visit now before the Shinkansen arrives in Fukui!
We had a reservation for March 2020…. 3 1/2 long years later we finally made it, and every mouthful was worth the wait. Innovative, delicious and fun! It was a great evening with
Finally made it to Hokkaido in the summer and have been exploring Furano and the STUNNING surrounding area. Thanks to the wonderful we started our day with fabulous coffee at one of the few places open before 11 (why don’t Japanese need coffee in the morning?!), before hiking into an active volcano and then being welcomed by the owner of an incredible art museum to eat wagyu wrapped burgers in their lovely cafe. Can’t wait to come back to explore more with Brad & Jacksan 🐾
There are some fabulous eaters opening in Hakuba. In time for the Winter season
Escape from the city heat
If you find yourself in Yufuin, make sure to find the time to pop into the tea room for a chocolate drink, or cake, or drink and cake…. 🤔
A rooftop bar pool. In Shibuya!! So cool 😎

These few seconds of calm@are coming to you from the Shirakami Sanchi beech forest of Akita where the water is flowing out of an uninhabited virgin forest at a cool 10 degrees @visitshirakami @nippondiscovery #shirakamisanchi #akita #shinrinryoku #forestbathing #beechforest #japaneseforest
The water flowing from the Shirakami core zone supplies a large area of Akita; a very good reason for keeping it pristine and untouched. It is absolutely delicious! @visitshirakami @nippondiscovery #shirakamiwater #bestwaterever #negativeions

One morning we received an uni (sea urchin) education; they come in many colours, opening them is an acquired skill, and they are utterly delicious with just a dab of sea water. Plucked from the sea that morning by a lovely neighbouring fisherman, these were gifted to @700000heures for our dinner #uni #seaurchin #ine #uminokyoto #japanstaycation #offthebeatentrack #familyfun #lifeskills @nippondiscovery
