Wasabi Picking Experience in Oda
A Taste of Magic in Oda 🌿
Tucked away in the lush greenery of Oda, we found ourselves in what felt like a scene straight out of a Studio Ghibli movie. The air was crisp, the streams crystal clear, and the wasabi fields glowed in the dappled sunlight.
Hand-picking fresh wasabi from this enchanting landscape was only the beginning. We savored the fruits of our labor with a simple yet unforgettable meal: freshly grated wasabi paired with steamed rice and tender, homemade roast beef. A perfect harmony of bold flavors and natural beauty.

🥷✨Check out the unique Obon Dance of Tsuwano, Shimane✨🥷
Tsuwano Obon Festival is held on August 15th every year.
The Obon Festival is an annual Japanese holiday in August. During this time, the spirits of the ancestors are believed to return to this world and visit their relatives. And during this time Tsuwano has its annual Obon festival and unique Obon dance.
Participants dance in a white costume with a black hood, a round fan tucked into a white headband, and small bells attached to the wrists. The costumes are unique to the Kamei clan who were the domain lords of Tsuwano from 1617 to 1868. Before coming to Tsuwano, the Kamei clan was located in Tottori, where they wore these costumes to conceal their armor and weapons during a surprise raid on a nearby castle. After coming to Tsuwano, they celebrated their victory by starting this festival.

Suikawari
Have you heard of the game “suika-wari”? 🍉
Suika-wari (スイカ割り) is a traditional Japanese summer game that involves a watermelon, a stick, and a blindfold. Each participant is given a turn until someone splits the watermelon open with a wooden- stick. However, before they take their whack at the watermelon, they are blindfolded and instructed to spin around ten times before their attempt. Comparable to the piñata, the watermelon is placed away from the blindfolded player and advised where to go by other participants. And after the watermelon is split open, all pieces are shared amongst the participants. 🍉

Did you know that strawberries are not fruits?
Well, at least not in Japan. Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing classifies herbaceous plants, strawberries, as a vegetable even though they are eaten like fruit.🥬🍓🥕
Omori Farm is one of the several farms in Yasugi city where the suitable climate of the area and relatively short period of daylight make them naturally sweeter.☔️
You can book the 50-minute strawberry-picking experience through their website.
Although this year's strawberry season is ending, the best harvest period for strawberries is between March and May. Don’t miss out on spoiling yourself with the fresh and nutritious vitamin C-rich vegetable, strawberries!
Also, it's worth stopping Sherie Cafe シェリーカフェ to enjoy a stunning seasonal parfait.🍨🍰🍓
